Now, as a kickboxer, I might be biased. So I'm gonna keep my opinions to myself (though you might have guessed what I think). Answers please!

I disagree with all these guys previous to me. I have been in many street fights and cage fights. It is the art not the artist and also the people you train with. An Artist can be molded into what they need to become although natural talent helps. I have to say that Muay-Tai kickboxing is the best stand up martial art. Ju-Jitsu is the best submission martial art. I may also be biased since im a cage fighter. Furthermore..this guy asked for the best art not the best artists.

yeah the other guys right there is no best art it depends on u the artist and how much u train and know what 2 train and how long u have been training and what u train on and if u really put ur skills 2 the test... there are alot of questions that decide if u r a good martial artist but the best thing u can do 2 b the best martial artist is 2 study many diffrent arts... kick boxing is a good striking art but if u went up against a jui jitsui guy that got u 2 the ground it's over 4 u... but if u caught him before then it's over but if u did study grappling 2 then it would b in favor of u... BUT u can still lose.

That's easy dude, there ISN'T ONE that's the "best".

Since 90% of the Martial Arts disciplines out there are based around the SAME techniques and ideals but just given different names.

all have their strengths AND weaknesses.

So there is NO such thing as a Martial Art that can be called the "best".

Once and for all

The best martial art is the one that works for you! There is not one martial art better than another, they all have their own advantages and disadvantages. However I believe on what makes a martial art "the best" is the martial artist themselves. I have trained in multiple martial arts but on the street, I will use whatever works...kick the groin, gouge the eyes, stomp the foot, kick to the knee, etc...I'm not going to care which martial art it is.

Brazilian Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is supposed to work for people of any body size or strength against any other type of martial art.

I noticed that many Jiu-Jitsu practitioners also take some type of kickboxing to round out their skill set, however.

I have cross trained for many years, and i dont think there is a name to the "best martial art", and stupid though this may sound i really think it has more to do with spiritual cultivation than with learning how to hit someone.
but i will for the sake of this argument place the chinese arts in high regard

I have seen late-middle aged chinese men do things like be driven over by a double decker bus-(7.3 tonnes) and be unharmed.
Heres a good example http://www.chidynamics.org.my/video.html

I have seen old chinese men reduce huge juijitsu guys to blubbering masses without touching them, stopping their bodily organs without touching them.
These guys can hit you so hard you get a bruise on your back instead of your front and loose control of all your bodily organs.

My friend who hasnt trained for seven years and is in his late seventies crushed a pile of sixteen roof tiles with a hand strike

Another friend in his late sixties uses the six section whip, six lengths of black oak connected by chains, with a spear tip on the end
If he hit a human with it, they would be thrown in the air and ripped in half.
He can hit a coin out of the space between your ear and head from about six meters away.
And put a hole in it.-(if its a soft asian one anyway)

these three examples trained in different arts,
chen style tai chi chuan
shaolin
and just a generic kung fu
however they all trained in chi gong practices

i have great respect for kickboxing, especially maui thai, the young guys are amazing
but i dont think it would be that much good against a guy that can withstand 7.3 tonnes of pressure
and that will kill you or maim you if he manages to touch you
bearing in mind that your foot or hand makes a tempting target, just as much so as your body

There are no best arts, only best artists. The frequency and quality of your training will far out weigh your art.

Do you honestly believe all kick-boxers everywhere are the best martial artists?

Once & for all, there is NO BEST art. There are many good arts, each with it'd strong & weak points. It's the artist, not the art.
