It could be two rare pennies that are worth 15 cents each.

Or two coins from another currency that could be exchanged for 30 cents in American money.

Or it's a trick based on word usage and the "one of them" that is "not a nickel" is a quarter.

The coin your talking about is the quarter the one your not talking about is the nickel.
