the use of the next driver is relevant, but also, that person would just be driving another car if it wasnt yours, so the fact that you are not driving is good for the environment

It is aging and your right if you tade it in and get something new then someone else is just going to buy it and drive it. So I would not rush to get rid of it. But when you are in the market for a new vehical as a normal replacement. Then I would say it is important to look for a more environment friendly mode of transpertation.
Now if your really motivated and concerned what you could do is keep your car and use it for only specific times when you really need that level of comfort or speed (long trips) but get something else much more efficent for the local commuting like a scooter. Some can be really cool but also get like 80 miles to a gallon.
And hey kudos to you for even thinking about doing better environmnentally.

Unfortunately, I think the best thing for the environment is the worst thing for you personally--taking the car out of circulation entirely, meaning not selling it. However, an argument could be made that if the person you sell it to hadn't bought your car, they would have bought a new one and there would be TWO gas guzzlers on the road instead of one. I'm not sure that's a valid argument, but it's something.
If you really want to keep the car off the road, you could still sell the rest of it (other than the engine) for parts.

this is one of the much nicer driving autos on the market today. Ship it to CA and have it converted to run electric, but one thing over size the motor, oh wait use 2. You can still have the power but not the trunk space. Try to be a leader not a follower.
People are starting to understand why we run diesel VW's they smell like fried food.
Good Luck Earthings
Remember if it's yellow let it mellow, but if it's brown send it down.

I too have a 740il (1994), I would CRY to get rid of it. How could you?? I'll take it off your hands if you don't appreciate the fine German engineering of a BMW. They are the BEST cars. And the Magnificent 7 is the best. I LOVE mine. Give me yours, I promise to not ever drive it, I'll keep it in the garage, covered....HONEST I would........
Oh, BTW, your CO2 emmissions from your Beemer is not even an issue. Temites cause more CO2 emmisions than we could ever dream of.

That is dependent upon how much the next owner would use it compared to you.
