They are not banned in all the U.S. though that might well come about. The main reason is their ability to cause undue harm "if and when" they bite. Pitt Bulls and a couple of other breeds, including I think the Rottweillers are in a special class of dogs that have a different biting strength from a regular dog. Example of this is big dogs such as a Labrador, German Shepherd, Collie, Irish Setter, etc. have approximately the same maximum biting strength. This equates out to around 500 lbs. per square inch. Is relatively stable amongst all the big breeds with smaller dogs of course having less strength. The Pitt Bulls and some other similar breeds are in the same class of strength as a full blood wolf with a biting strength when full grown of approximately 1500 lbs per inch. That is three times the strength of a regular "very large" dog. Add to that the muscle mass and the fact that they are bred to fight and you have a situation where they can kill easily. They can take down an adult with no problem and can literally rip a baby or young child to pieces. This is what they were bred for to use in hunting or fighting and defense, etc. That is also why you hear of so many of them killing or maiming people and especially children that don';t often realize when they are aggravating the dog. When is the last time you heard of an Irish Setter or Labrador, killing people??? Of course all these breeds are guilty of "biting" people periodically as any dog can bite. It is that the pittbulls especially can not only bite your arm, they can literally take it off bone and all. One of the towns here near me has banned them and I can see this eventually being banned in most places, and in the ones where they remain legal requiring special pens and insurance just as you would have to have when folks keep panthers and other dangerous wild animals. Reason that this will come about I think is because of the "liability" issues regarding homeowner's insurance. Folks can argue the merits or non-merits of keeping such animals all they want, but it is coming down to "liability" issues as to why you are seeing the bans on them based on the dogs actual biological ability to do damage above and beyond the norm.

I am not aware of them being banne anywhere. However, I know in Detroit MI, you must be at least 18 years of age to even walk them. It is also hard to get home owners or renters ins if you have them. Either way, the dogs themselves should not be illegal anywhere . . . it should just be illegal for certain people to have them. They are the ones who are to blame for their bad rep.

I don't think there is a web site for that. I have spent hours looking and haven't found anything. There should be though. We moved to a town that didn't allow them and we didn't know. We had to either move or give up the dogs to be destroyed. We moved.

I believe (not absolutely positive) that they are illegal to own in Miami. More and more cities are considering legislation restricting what people consider to be "high risk" breeds.

No, not for the time of the entire US. it ought to favor to be approved on a federal element which I doubt will ever ensue. this is troublesome adequate to get valid guidelines exceeded. the in elementary words way it ought to ensue us of a wide is that if personally all 50 states positioned their personal ban in position. it is also unlikely.

definitely in Canada. If you had one previously you are allowed to keep it but restrainted. No more are allowed. That is what happens when breeders are not careful whom they sell to. and people start breeding whatever they want and aggression starts to become part of the breed.

I know they're banned in Denver. They're also banned at Nashville dog parks.
I haven't been able to find a list online yet.
