by suing that airline? What was his point? Couldn't he have just made a nice phone call to make a request? Did he have to go on national TV and make a specticle? Are Kosher Deli's now going to be required to have a Christmas Tree set up so that all religions are covered?

He threatened to sue. He may have offered a free menorah, but he still threatened to sue. But I don't think that ANYONE should be required to put anything religious up that they don't want to. That would be against the first ammendment, freedom of speech and religion.

The rabbi had been dickering with the Seattle Port Authority for months over including a menorah among the decorations. The PA had resisted, insisting that the "holiday trees" were secular, not religious symbols, and adding a menorah (arguably a religious symbol) to the mix would cause legal problems. When agreement could not be reached, the PA, in a move which raised consternation among almost everyone (including the rabbi) decided to remove the trees. Cooler heads have now prevailed (for the moment, at least); the trees are coming back, no menorah this year, but next year -- who knows?

I agree...I was motivated to dig the light up nativity out of the garage and set it up in the bushes this year...my significant other, who is catholic, has threatened to make a plywood figurine of the goddess Kali complete with moving arms, to grace the other side of the yard...I personally believe in chemicals and Energy.

FYI he didn't sue anyone, he only offered to provide a free menorah.
Thanks for caring.
