I'm looking to buy my in-laws a gift certificate for a nice place in New york City where they can have a nice dinner and do some dancing. My in-laws are in their 50's. The type of music should not be salsa or swing. I need a place where people in their 50's will really enjoy themsleves with good food, good music, and a fun atmosphere. Thanks.

Tavern on the Green in Central Park They have dancing and nice music. They can dance and have a nice evening. No salsa or swing. Check it out. Nice atmosphere too.

The Rainbow Room or the Marriot Marquis at Times Square area - they have a revolving restaurant (the name escapes me at the moment) & a lounge where you can dance. The view is spectacular!

No dancing but ... Check out Brandy Library but more importantly Caffe Taci here http://www.dueviste.com/index3.htm.
My girlfriend and I found it soo amusingly fun.
Note - the Brooklyn recommendation - Nite and Day (which we also tried and had a great skylight jazz room) recently closed.

Blue note - its a jazz club with good food, great music, live band and really romantic and elegant. They will have a great time!
