The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located on the transmission/transaxle housing, facing the gear teeth of the flywheel/flexplate. It detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution. The sensor consists of a permanent magnet, core and coil.
When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. This changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. Due to the changing magnetic field, the voltage from the sensor changes.
The ECM receives this varying voltage signal and detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution. This sensor is not directly used to control the engine system. It is used for the on-board diagnosis of a misfire.
TESTING
Remove the sensor from the engine.
Inspect the sensor tip. If damage to the tip is evident, replace the sensor.
Measure the resistance between the sensor terminals.
Sensor resistance should be 432-528 ohms @ 77°F (25°C) on Altima.
If resistance is not within specification, the sensor may be faulty.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
The crankshaft position sensor is located on the transmission/transaxle housing facing the gear teeth of the flywheel/flexplate.
Disconnect the sensor electrical harness.
Remove the sensor mounting bolts.
Remove the sensor from the transaxle/transmission housing.
To install:
Install the sensor in the transaxle/transmission housing.
Tighten the sensor mounting bolts securely.
Connect the sensor electrical harness.

Look directly beneath the radiator cap and next to the radiator hose you should see the connector for the crank position sensor. It take the signal off the flywheel and yes code P0335 indicates replace the crank sensor. To test it if you want is 432-528 ohms at 77 degrees F.

this is the problem with altima from 02-06, my brothers 04 altima 2.5s had the same prob, what happens is over 40,000 miles your transmission starts skipping because stupid nissan put a plastic cheap crankshaft sensor. nissan wont recall this problem because no one has been injured yet from this, i called the dealership and asked em, the crankshaft sensor costs about $250 and you can only get them from the nissan dealership, they dont sell them anywhere else. we had to sell the car because the tranny was pretty much gone

You have pretty good answers the sensor however is located in the bell housing of the transmission in front look straight down behind the radatior just to the right side of center facing rear of the car it has two wires and black plastic plug. One 10mm bolt holds it into the transmission's bell housing. Approx 4" long when removed.

As you are looking down at your engine, it should be to the right of the exhaust manifold under a hose, near where the trans mounts to the engine.
