i keep thinking my mum is insane!
she tends to talk to herself alot
example of today:::
mum mutters: deal at £20,000... deal at £20,000...
me: what are you doing mum?
mum: im watching deal or no deal.
me: but the tv isn't on...
mum: deal at £20,000... deal at £20,000...
me: *walks away slowly*
she also gets hella nasty and starts throwing pans/knives/phones etc at me!
she's always trying to start arguments with people, she aims for me the most.
i have soo many scars from her, it's getting me down.
the whole "i just fell in the hedge" thing is getting old now!
i don't wind her up at all.. but she's really messed up in the head.
is this normal?
she does tend to go on about her child life alot and how much it sucked for her so maybe it's that?
i've tried taking her to the doctors 4 times now.
she just doesnt believe in doctor help or pills.
i don't either really.
should i just ignore and carry on letting her embaras herself and me?

Yes, your mum is insane. And you know, these things are hereditary, so it's only a matter of time before this happens to you, too. Oh... it already has, huh?

To me it sounds like she needs help and needs it now. Here in the USA you can go to the court house and sign what is called a section 12. This is a court document which allows the court to take custody of someone and have this person examined for like 12 days. This exam is strictly for mental capacity, and if this person is found to be competent they are released after the 12 days. If there are issues it comes back before the court and the person is further committed for more examination.
I was in a TOTALLY different situation which involved my X-wife. I did this petition and gained custody of my kid. The X, WELLLLLL she is dead. She did herself in. BUT the important thing here is she had the same signs as your mother. I wish you the best of luck for a good outcome.

Sounds like she needs to see a doctor. She might have a form of dementia called Alzhiemers. It's pretty common to develop some kind of dementia so it's good to see a doctor. Unfortunately, the only help the doctor can give is to tell you she has dementia and try to slow the process with pills. If you are against pills then you need to find a way you can exist without getting so scarred from her. First, realizing that she has a form of dementia means that her actions are nothing personal against you. This means that when she is mean to you, of course it will hurt, but she doesn't realize what she is doing to you. It can be a long road, but hang in there. She loves you and she does not mean to hurt you.

Talking to yourself is normal... Pretty much everybody does it. The rest of her behaviour that you describe does not sound normal, and she may need treatment for it.
But if she is refusing treatment, that doesn't mean that you can't look for help yourself. If she is harming you, whether it's physically or mentally, you need to find help and look for other options. A therapist could help you learn how to better deal with your mother's behaviour and its effects on you, and help you find an alternative place to live where you wouldn't have to be at any risk.

She needs help, there is little doubt of that. But - you have to take care of yourself. If you have to move out and continue to check on her daily. You have to have a life and cannot allow yourself to be abused.
Go to a doctor yourself, explain about your mom and ask what courses of action you can take to get her hospitalized and evaluated.
