No it isn't moral. It is all to do with money. The Government knows even if it banishes smoking in Pubs etc the sale of tobacco won't go down.
Both smoking and alcohol puts the biggest burden on our N.H.S

I am of the opinion that you can't legislate morality. We have tried in the past (prohibition) and are still trying today, ie. drugs, prostitution, etc. But these things still go on, with no end in sight. Am I proposing legalizing these things, absolutely not, but even if there are laws against them, people still commit them. To make tobacco and alcohol illegal would do nothing but drive it underground, create a black market for it and thus cause further problems, like stealing, robbery, mayhem, death. It's a Catch-22 and always will be. What we need to do as individuals is to teach the next generation, like our children, that use of tobacco and alcohol is not a good idea and if used, should only be used in moderation. We also need to tell them that if something is against the law, like drugs, that it's against the law for a reason and breaking the law can have consequences. There's that being responsible for our own actions thing.

Do you remember studying about Prohibition at all????
HELLO! If they were illegal, the crime rate would just be higher than it already is!
Whether it's "moral" or not would depend on your morals. It's a very personal issue for smokers and drinkers.
My opinion: No, it is not moral for tobacco and alcohol to be legal.

Prohibition in the United States showed that the law is powerless to prevent the consumption of alcohol, however immoral its sale may be. The situation in relation to tobacco is almost certainly similar.
Where absolute prohibition of dangerous substances is impossible, it is sensible to fall back on practical legislation to regulate them.

what wouldn't be moral about it?? Both are your choice - if you choose to smoke or drink or do both.. it's your choice... They tried to make alcohol illegal once.. it didn't work, made life worse and tobacco has always been legal-it's not a mind altering substance like alcohol or drugs

Of course it is moral, if I want to drink and smoke it is non of the law's dam business.
What is immoral is when the Government steal our money in the form of extremly excessive tabaco and alcohol taxes.

Not really about morality, but nor is the prohibition of drugs. If someone is addicted to heroin, the chances are they have a whole host of other problems in their life. To add the threat of criminal sanctions to these - that is immoral.

Morality, like religion, democracy and law are methods by which you control large numbers of people. It helps if you can convince such throngs that these chains free you! So the answer is, kind of, "No.No!"

Anything you do "bad" for your body is not "moral"...
There is no "morals" for committing slow suicide and have others watch you while you waste away with lung disease or other from ciggarrette smoking, or cancers an psorosis from drinking!
Each is a bad thing and bad things are to be avoided... (Is it THAT hard to figure out? Watch those that drink or smoke and see how "they" deterriorate right before your eyes!)...
I wish you well..
