Christians don't try to "convert" people. In fact, it is impossible for them to convert anybody. Christians are merely commissioned to share the gospel. And once you've heard the gospel, the responsibility is on you.
It's up to you to receive it, or reject it.

If you saw someone about to get hit by a bus, would you try to save them?? Or would you just assume that they know the bus is coming and can make their own choice to get out of the way or not? I don't think that most Americans really know the message of the Bible. There are too many Christians not living out the Bible for me to believe the message is getting out there. Most people know some basic ideas, but not the whole truth.
To a Christian - hell is real. If you love someone you don't want them to go there. You want to do everything you can to "save them" I know a lot of us can get over pushy and go about it the wrong way. But can you see their intentions are good?
I don't actively push people to convert, I try to live my life and hope they see the difference. Maybe I need to be more active, but I don't believe that mere words will convince anyone. Only the Holy Spirit can convert people. I just live, love and talk about God's goodness in my life. I find that people come to me when they have problems. They see that I don't struggle like they do and they ask me why. That means they are now open to receive what I can tell them. Is that less offensive ?? I hope so. I hope that method doesn't make people mad at God.

"if people already know what the message of the Bible is (as with the majority of Americans)"
Which part of America are you living in? I didn't attend church until I was in my mid-twenties and no one ever told me what the overall message was. In fact, I can scarcely remember a time when anyone even invited me to church.
Contrary to popular belief, we don't sit around stewing about how to convince you that you're evil and that you need to be one of us. We do sit around trying to figure out ways to show you how blessed we are since findiing the true Message that the world seems to be missing.
It's easy to sit back and think that Christians are judging you and are plotting to convert you, but the truth is I'm doubting you encounter such things day-to-day all that often. I'm also doubting that the majority of people are aware of the message because they're too pre-occupied with the fear of being judged. They're missing the point that it's not about judging one another. It's about caring for one another and God.
So tell me, who has tried to convert you recently, and how did they go about that?
If your answer involves this forum, you shouldn't be surprised to encounter religion in the religion forum.

I dont try to convert people. Finding God is something people have to actively be searching for in order to find Him. Without that we have no power over their thoughts. If you have had someone try to convert you its probably because they want to share the love they feel with you. They arent trying to convert you for selfish secret agendas. They want to share something that is a big part of thier life with you.Granted you may not care or want to hear it. But do you ever try to educate people on what you believe? Same thing. Everyones just trying to help everyone. Its all with good intentions. So the next time someone does that, listen to them. Then spout your beliefs back. But dont get angry or defensive. Honestly share with eachother. You never know what you can learn with an open mind.!

It's not a matter of just getting people to join our religion. Religion by itself is not enough to get into heaven. I can't speak for others, but I feel it is my duty to try to show others how much better life is when you have a relationship with God. Jesus commanded us to tell others and win them to Christ. It's more than "educating." We (I) are trying to spare as many people as possible from an eternity in hell.
People sometimes ask why God, if He is so loving, sends people to hell. Well, He doesn't. From the beginning of time we have been doomed to hell, simply by being born into a sinful world. God gave us a means of escape through His son Jesus. It's He that we have to accept, not a religion, or morality. It's not enough to be good. God expects us to be moral people. He asks that we accept His gift. I don't feel as if I'm judging anyone when I share my faith. I simply want to reach out in love and extend the gift to everyone I come in contact with.

Because we are called to and for the record my way of witnessing is by going on missions trips to help people in need and letting people ask me abotu my tattoos (christians who condem I am not asking for your opinion of whether tattoos are right or wrong, if you read your bible and your history books you would know that we are no longer bound by all old testment law!!!) Anyways there are things that you prbably don't even know. My whole aspect on witnessing is historical and based on archaeological facts etcetera which there are many in the way of Judaism/Christianity...As far as accuracy of the bible goes it is very accurate up to 100-300 BCE the Dead Sea Scrolls proved that, in fact those who wanted to prove it wrong were proven wrong. Anyways there is still a lot of mystery surronding the scrolls but there are a lot of questions answered. They recently uncovered one of the first christian churches in Israel as well. It has I think John the babptist and Mary Magdelne named in the tiles as founders or something like that. Anyways I love history and sicoverying lost artifacts and stuff so I know a lot...

It comes from the elitist teachings that they are right and seperate In their God's eyes from the rest of the world. They believe that it is their mission in life to convert non believers to their ranks. It's their belief because they think anyone who doesn't think the same way they do is absolutely wrong and will go to hell.
Here are some videos on evangelistsm evangelism and forms of discrimination by Christians.

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
We don't want people to burn in a lake of fire for eternity...in other words WE CARE even though you like to persecute us. Our love is greater than the evil committed against us. By the way we don't judge people the Bible does that. We just quote the Bible.

As a 26 yr old believer in GOD. It is our job to let people no that there is more to life than the sun rising and the sun setting. I don't preach the word to death. But if you are willing to listen than I will tell you have faith saved me. In the bible Jesus told us believers to go and spread the word about him and GOD. So that is what we are so poss to do. But if you don't believe that's OK I will still pray for you and your safety. May GOD be with you and all others in your time of need.

Personally I do not try to convert anyone, But I do evangelize that is I explain my faith in love. However I do Pray for souls to Our Blessed Mother for she can intercede for the conversion of souls to the Lord. The best thing that I can do is set an example and you become a witness to Christ.

Jesus commands it:
Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Mark 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
