It is true that only 144,000 will go to heaven, where they will rule as kings and priests over the earth. (Revelation 5:9, 10; 14:1-3)
Untold millions will forever upon the earth - plenty of room for more. Would you not like to live forever in paradise on earth?
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth". -- Matthew 5:5; compare Psalm 37:9-11, 29; Proverbs 2:21, 22.
Additionall, not the conditions of the people and the planet: Isaiah 9:6, 7; 33:24; 35:1-7; Revelation 21:3-5.

First off, it is rude to disrepect someone else's religion. They knock on the door because the word says to spread around what you know about Jehovah and make those around you aware that he will be here. It is just like church; they are just expanding their audience. They believe that if they make the community aware, they have done their part. That is what Jesus did right? Spread the word around and the expectations his father had for us right? Jehovahs witnesses are not doing anything different. And disrupting you from your sleep to talk to you about the word of the Jehovah gives them just as great of a chance of getting into heaven as it would if you were wide awake. And don't let one person who influence the way a whole religion acts. There are many "Christians" out there who do the same thing. As a matter of fact, you probably consider yourself a Christian (and if you not then you still messing up the reputation of your own religion.) If you had thought about this question before you posted then maybe you wouldn't have. By the way, I am not a Jehovahs witness, but I wouldnt mind being one.

As an ex jehovahs witness, it is true they believe only 144thou people will be going to heaven, but this 144000 are supposed to become gods army and help the angels who were already up there get ready for this armagedon, in which they believe that the rest of the jehovahs witness people will live in a perfect world and never die. The use of these 144000 is to wipe out evil being the devil and i'm sorry to say everyone who is not a follower of their faith, as we are considered "evil" also. As I say i'm an ex jehovahs witness

They don't teach that 144,000 of them are going to heaven, they don't believe that 1914 was the end of the world, and they go door to door preaching because that's what Jesus did, and he commanded his followers to do the same at Matthew 28:19,20. If you "work with" one of them, why don't you ask them to clear things up for you using the Bible? That's better than coming on here asking a bunch of people who don't know anything about them.
Ps- They aren't a cult or sect, either. If that were the case, they would be living separate from society, and they surely don't do that, being that they go preaching from door to door and they work and go to school with the rest of society just like everyone else.

To answer Ashley R.
I think it is rude of them to knock on my door, at any time they wish. Similiar to a door to door salesman, do you think it is rude of them to day knock on your door when you are trying to have lunch with your family and then won't leave and keep pestering you to read some literature that you may or may not be interested in reading anyway.
If anything they should come by appointment. Leave a little card saying that they would like to discuss some religous literature at a convient time for someone and if they wish to contact them and go over the literature to call them back at a particular number.
So, basically the ones who are being rude are the Jeahovas Witness's who are demanding and pestering for someone's time.

Somebody here has mixed the JWs up with Mormons (who had the 14 year old boy starting his new religion, name of Joseph Smith). The questioner has mixed up the 144,000 JW doctrine with conventional Christian doctrine, so it's no wonder he's confused. And a lot of JW answers show no understanding of the "one hope, one faith, one baptism" the Bible proclaims.
For clarity; JWs believe there are two classes of 'Christians'; 1st class Christians who are anointed with 'holy spirit' and 2nd class Christians who are NOT anointed and who will never get off the planet. Jesus is only the Mediator for the 1st class elite (numbering 144,000 from the time of Christ till now). and there are about 8,000 of them today, all JWs. All JWs go from door-to-door to gather in 'the other sheep' who are not anointed. They believe a great crowd of those people who become JWs will survive Armageddon (whilst the 8,000 anointed members are taken to heaven) and live forever on a paradise earth, as long as they remain obedient. So, the heavenly 'calling' is closed, but there are still plenty places available for Paradise Earth.
I'm not going to go into the error of this doctrine of spiritual apartheid. Suffice to say the 1914 date supposedly was when Jesus returned invisibly, but the generation that lived then has departed; we're now three or four generations on, so JW leaders are trying to get their followers to look ahead to a future visible return of Christ (which now sounds terribly like the orthodox Christian teaching they used to slate, which has lasted 2,000 years, except it says it will be the second coming, not the third.)
The only thing that supposedly cuts down JWs chances is NOT going from door to door, and NOT obeying their elite leaders. So I hope you now understand what motivates JWs to knock on doors (and drop, like pestilential locusts on particular questions on this site). Don't be mad at them (even if they wake you up). Feel sorry for them. They are chained to a system of works, with no assurance of salvation or forgiveness of sins. It's all future, all dependent on doing this, and not doing that, and passing the final test at the end of 1,000 years after Armageddon. No wonder your elder colleague is so pessimistic. Can you find it in your heart to pray for him?

They believe God called them to go door to door and they must do it in order to be saved. Don't be fooled and pulled in to their cult, you will be brainwashed and have no more of your own choices, you will shun your family and friends as they will become your new family, don't believe their lies, they will try everything to tell you it's true but it all comes from the Watchtower not the bible. They have even changed the bible to reflect their own views, examine one of their bibles and see all the places they changed. If I were you I wouldn't let the elder talk JW bull with you ever, not even once.

Hi there.
Although the J.W. elder that you work with may be crafty & pessimistic, that in itself is no sure indication that the organisation which he is part of doesn't contain many well - intentioned, sincere people. As a committed, born - again believer in Jesus Christ, I am well aware of there being many professing Christians who by their speech & actions discredit the faith which they claim to belong to. While personal conduct is important in religious matters, good or bad conduct by certain members is not necessarily an accurate guage of how true a religion is as a means to know God and receive eternal life. What any religious group teaches in the light of God's word, the Bible, is what really counts. In this respect, the Jehovah's Witnesses - sincere as many of them might be - are exposed as false teachers & proclaimers of God's word.
The Watchtower organisation (J.W's), far from being God's sole channel of communication on earth, teach & preach a false message of salvation (eternal life in God's kingdom) by works, rather than the free gift of God to all who genuinely turn from sin and believe in Jesus Christ His Son, who died to pay the penalty for all the bad things we have done. The WT also have a history of failed prophecies, details of which can be found on the websites at the bottom of this answer. These sites also contain information concerning the false teachings on the 144,000 & 1914 which you alluded to. Please take time to check them out if you are interested in knowing more.
May God bless you.

First off, this is the correct english spelling of Jehovah.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that 1914 was the end of the world, but the end of the Gentile Times when Jesus began ruling in heaven, and Satan was throw out of heaven at that time and confind to the earth. Rev. 12:12 "Woe to the earth because the Devil has come down to you having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time." What has happen since 1914? WWI, WWII, Koren War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, the current war. Those are just ones U.S. was involved in. 1914 is marked as a time the world changed. We can see why with Satan's influence.
As far as the 144,000. That is a specific number stated at Rev. 7:4 and Rev. 14:1 that are sealed having the Lamb and his fathers name on their foreheads. So they are set apart from others, having proved themselves faithful unto death. They are to rule as priests of God and Christ (Rev. 20:6) What are they to rule over? Rev. 7:9 states that there would be a "great crowd" that no one could number from all the nations vs 14 shows that they would survive the great tribulation or armaggedon. As stated eariler, yes the meek will inherit the earth and live forever upon (Psalms 37:10,11 &29) Many of the 144,000 was filled by the faithful Christians who died after Jesus thru out history. Since Jesus opened the way for man to die and go to heaven, there were a lot of faithful men and woman who died prior to Jesus, who would not have gone to heaven. Noah, Abraham, Job, Esther etc.....what hope do they have? John 5:28 states "Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out" This is what Jesus taught, not that everyone went to heaven or a burning hell. That is the "good news" that he commanded his followers to preach at Matt 24:14 "this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come" Since the end has not come, Jehovah's Witnesses for love of neighbor feel the need to spread this good news to all worldwide, door to door just as Jesus did.
If you know of something better that the bible teaches to be the "good news", I would hope you want to share it.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not have a "calling" to go door to door. (That's a new one I had never heard before) It is something that Jesus commanded to be done and he even said that if his disciples remained silent, he would have the stones cry out at Luke 19:40.
Jehovah's Witnesses are not an cult. The only man we follow is Jesus. Why aren't Catholics considered an cult? They follow the Pope. What about someone who follows Billy Graham? Are they an cult?
Jehovah's Witnesses do not consider anyone who is not a Jehovah's Witness as evil. We do feel that we need to be no part of the world, not in the sense of alienating ourselves from everyone, but that we continually work on not displaying the attitudes, speech and conduct of the world that Jehovah disapproves of. Ephesians 5:3-5 "Let fornication and uncleanness of every sort or greediness not even be mentioned among you, just as it befits holy people, neither shameful conduct nor foolish talking nor obscene jesting, things which are not becoming but rather give thanks. For you know this, recognizing it for yourselves, that no fornicator or unclean person or greedy person, which means being an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God." The fact that people hate us is of no concern, because Jesus said it would happen at John 17:14 "I have given your word to them, but the world hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world."
There is only one true God, one bible and only one truth in the bible. It is each individual persons responsiblity to do the research and study the bible to find that truth. John 17:3 "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ"
Jehovah's Witnesses truly believe they have found that truth and want to share it with others, not because someone, other than Jesus, tells us to do so. If you truly don't want them coming to your door, the next time they do, tell them and they will make a note to not call at your home.

Well gix, its this way.....
I've spoken to them many times and it makes a bit of sense.
Think of government.
The population doesn't all go to Capital City.
They send their representatives ....senators, or congressmen, whatever.
Those senators and congressmen form the government.
They make laws and work for the betterment of the population.
The population that stayed home.
The 144 form a government.
They work for the benefit of an innumerable population that will fill the earth.
Now, if you work nights, tell them to make a note to call later in the day.
If you don't want to know anything, tell them to make a note not to call at all.
They really are reasonable people .....most of them.
