I don't mean like in a helpful way. My friends often offer to pray for me if I am feeling ill or going through a hard time, and I am grateful, because they truly mean well behind it. But I always find it amusing when a holier-than-thou Christian offers to "pray for me" because I am a "heathen", gay or some other silly thing. I always feel the urge to tell them, "All right. You pray to your god for me, and I'll pray to all my gods for you."

Anyone else feel the same? Am I alone?

Rachel B --- I find your answer a hilarious example of exactly what I was talking about. Your god is just as real as my gods. Only that mine are much, much older. Your Bible even recognizes the existance of other gods. Confused? Feel free to email me.

However, it is somehow more acceptable for you to pray for me than for me to pray for you? Tsk. Both are insulting. I would never pray for someone unless they asked me to.

I am a Christian and take offense to that, especially if I am having a rough time in any certain way. It is "get out of dealing with my mess" card.

Me: I am broke, depressed, and out of work.
Him: Oh, I'm sorry. Are you reading the Bible? Going to church? I will pray for you? Bye.

I havn't had the experience yet ot being prayed to about being a heathen but if I did I would find it amusing as well. As for being prayed to get well I would find that a very kind gesture.

Im SO glad you asked....
No it does not offend me in the least if they are truly praying for me(if they are praying that i start goin to church and become a christian then thats offensive)But prayer does work (Woa hold your horses my peeps) I am an agnostic ....but prayer is nothing more than positive thoughts and energy directed your way...and that can be very powerful.
Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? EVERYONE should watch this its extremely enlightening and it works just try it.

I will not accept prayers from people. There are all kinds of prayers evil, good, santanic, hurtful and just down right ugly. It is bad enough that some people have bad thoughts about you anyway. The hoiler-than-thou people are the main people that have skeletons in their closets tell them to go pray for themselves.

I have found that taking such things as a tribute or compliment is the only way to go.

If it's meant as a tribute or compliment, then great. They will appreciate being prayed for in return.

If it's not, it tends to tick off the people saying such things, and that's their problem.

I'm not talking about Christians, but in general, but I think that praying is sort of spreading goodwill. Just thinking is enough, you don't have to be speak out loud in my opinion. But I don't take offence if someone does offer to pray for me....

You know, I am a believer in God and it does bug me. A lot. Someone offered to pray for me. I can pray for myself thank you.

Yes i agree with you.I don't mind people offering prayers out of genuine concern if i am unwell,of going through difficult times. But to offer prayers for me just because i am not a Christian is insulting.

Yes, it does offend me. When a Christian offers to pray for you because you don't share their religion, they're basically saying "there's something wrong with you, I'm going to see if I can get someone you don't believe in to fix you."

i as a muslim dont care cuz everyone worships the same god(allah). even if someone worships idol and says ill pray for u, i dont mind. but i pray for myself as well and for them to be guided. if i mind and say something its only gonna cause hatered towards one another so let them be. it is taught in islam to tolerate and respect others as well.
