As with any dog, it really depends on how it is raised. Daschunds are generally good-hearted, spirited little dogs, but I have been around one that has been very shy and one that is very hyper.
As long as you take the puppy to training classes, and ensure that it is well socialized, you shouldn't have any problems with a daschund! They can bark, like any dog, but can be trained to keep quiet when needed.

No, if raised properly, they are not mean, biting dogs.
YES, THEY BARK A LOT!!! Personal experience here, I have a long haired doxie and he's yappy for sure. But they are the sweetest little dogs. They just have this big dog trapped in a little dog thing going on.
They also can have back problems, so it's VERY important to monitor their weight and a feeding schedule as opposed to leaving food out is best to ensure this. An over weight doxie is at much higher risk of slipping a disc in the back, which is at the very least, temporary paralysis and very painful and at the worst, paralysis is permenant.

No, there are not mean. They were adorable and loving. They bark only if an unknown person approaches. I consider this a good trait. All we need to do is tell them "no barking" if we know the person. Some will bark more than others, for example, my little red dachshund barks more than the black one. But we have trained her, by saying "no barking" when she begins to bark. They love to chase squirrels and will bark if they see one. The dogs that bark excessively are chihuahuas.
I have never had a bite from our dachshunds.
They are easy to keep clean.
I highly recommend them as good pets.

My daschound is a very loveable baby. She loves to snuggle and be hugged. It is very seldom that she barks, usually only when our other dog barks or if another strange animal comes in the yard. She has never attempted to bite a human.
They are cold natured...they love to get under the covers when they sleep. And they love to run and play. Our Mystick loves her squeak toys....and when they stop making noise, she doesn't play with them much. She has a perfect beg position...we didn't train her, and she loves her vet. She does have a dust allergy problem. I wouldn't take nothing for my baby....they are loveable animals that are good with children.

Well no dog is a mean dog. It is the way the owner raises them. Well try spending time with the dog you are considering to get to see how it plays with you and stuff, then take it home. But it depends if it was treated wrongly or never really had that much human contact that makes the animal aggressive.

Uh, there are 200+ breeds out there. Glad you're doing your research, but this is much much much much much too general. How energetic? Can it shed a lot? Does it need to be kid/pet friendly(as in small animals or something)? Etc. The best course of action is to go to the local library or something and check out a dog breed book. There you can look at dog breeds and be able to see one that fits your home.

No they are definetly not. When they are puppies they can be very excitable but they are not mean at all. They are very loyal dogs. I think if you are considering geting one you can't ask for a better dog. They don't really bark that often either but they will bark at strangers when they come over.

They need firm training. They are VERY willful and won't obey unless you have trained them very well. They were originally bred to hunt badgers.. Yes , they crawled down into the badgers hole to flush them out. Badgers are known to be ferrocious and fearless.. so you can only imagine the traits that they would have wanted in a dog to hunt badgers...
Keep that in mind. They are not the dog for everyone. Alot of people love them and as long as you know what you are doing, it will be fine. Just keep in mind that you will need to be firm and consistant with the training.

I grew up with a dachsund which bit regularly. It was a family dog, probably traumatized by having wild kids around her and being moved by the army from Germany early in her life. They're meant as badger hunting dogs -- think of them as teeth with handles.
I've seen really sweet ones, but any small dog, when feeling low on the food chain, can go bad. Socializing your dachsund puppy should help, and if s/he is kid-skittish, don't let kids touch him/her.
