Is there anything going on physiologically / biochemically that would account for a person becoming really depressed or prone to crying while sick?

I've been sick with the flu for over a week, and now bronchitis, and I find myself extremely sad at times, and crying -- sobbing even -- at the drop of a hat. Is that normal?

Sorry to hear you feel like that.
I just got over the badest flu i ever had, I was actually in bed for several days, got sooo depressed and cried few times every day.
it probably has to do with not being able to do much, which makes you feel completely helpless and useless.
Just try to think that is only temporarily, that you will be back to your old self in a few days, and when it's really hard, call a friend and talk it over.
And think that there is much worse, you will feel good about having a fly instead some terminal illness (God forbid).
Hope you feel better soon!
And don't forget, lots of fluids and definitely chicken noodle soup :)

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Helping you eliminate depression?

That sucks. You should take some magnesium... it's a natural anti-depressant and gives you a natural boost. Drink lots of OJ and remember that it is normal to feel very low when you are sick.
