Religion is a cultural icon.

If you are born in the west you are Christian.

Middle East Muslim

Far East: Buddist, hindu, taoist, etc.

But my question is both philisophical and historical in nature.

If you are not of European decent yet reside in America you are only christian because of the atrocities commited during European imperialism (ie destruction of the Aztecs, and the African Slave trade). Had the Europeans stayed on the continent one could argue that Blacks would either be tribal or would have converted to Islam during Islams "Golden Age" that swept across africa. If you are of American decent (native american, mexican, etc.) Then you would still have your culture and religions which were farely impressive for their day. Both groups lost your language and most of your heritage. Your ansectors were killed and enslaved and yet you subscibe to your conquers religion.

How do you feel about this? What is your reasoning? Do you see things in a different light now?

Sir you are correct. My father's side of the family is mostly native american and my oldest sister has done much research and is actually considered a healer/shaman. I am Christian by default. When we were small, my dad was atheist and my mom is agnostic. Therefore what I got in the way of religion came about after reading the bible and deciding to follow it. Now had I been raised to follow the religious heritage of my father things would probably be vastly different from what it is not. I am not a practicing anything, simply a believer in Christ so in many ways I am open to what my sister has to say in many areas. I believe we should respect the land and take nothing we do not need. I believe in saying thanks for everything I have. I believe Jesus is my savior. And I only have one God. So I am sort of an eclectic mix I suppose. I do not believe in slapping someone in the head with the bible as I think it is something they must come to on their own, a sort of spiritual walk if you will. I think all religious beliefs should be respected as what someone else holds dear is no less important to them than what I myself hold dear. Good question.

If the fed taxes do not take you out then there's state or county and nearby taxes. Add to that when you have a plan then the economic system is manipulated and the curiosity premiums cross up so the banks that are managed by means of the govt. does you in. And and not using a truly approach of constructing it, the industry house owners have diminished pay and less employees. And the govt. is going on and hires extra that do much less and taxes don't seem to be ample to pay those overpaid executive employees that are available from eight-four:30 to make matters a trouble for the businessman/lady. So the govt. is killing us with two frame blows -- taxes and laws. Contrary to what the clicking says, the Tea Party has the one believable reply and the Democrats are no less than 4 instances as unhealthy because the RINO's which are slowly taking us to the identical inevitable finish because the Democrats are with the revolutionary objectives of socialism via taxation and laws and YES I have visible it first hand. The say should you tax the wealthy much less they'll unfold it to the fewer deserving. Well, individuals you spot how good that has labored over the final 30 years in which the tax premiums for the wealthy has plummeted. We nonetheless are an overly wealthy nation. The simplest main issue is the cash has shifted to the only a few wealthy. We particularly didn't have a monetary obstacle, however a shift in wealth. Hopefully individuals get frustrated ample to eventually become aware of this. It's already establishing with the Occupy Wall Street motion. Maybe a brand new political social gathering will pop out of it. But, finally will pop out of this mess.

First of all, if you were born in the west you are not necessarily a Christian, you may have been born into a Christian based society...

Second of all, most Human social dynamics start small and become decadent and unwieldy before they implode...religion is the same way...I think you are really looking for something controversial with your question and a trying to create what you probably consider deep reflection but in the presentation of your question, clearly you are inciting toward resentment...why do you want to give people still another reason to feel slighted?...I think studies on the basic nature of Humans and the exploitation of social contracts since the beginning of time would be more productive...

I don't think many people actually think that their religion is based on nothing more than the country they live in or the religion of their parents. Such a thought implies that there is only a random chance that they have it right. People tend to assume that their religion is the product of considerable, reasonable thought and evidence. They like to think that no matter where they were born they would have found the light eventually.
Questioning the historical roots of ones religion is detrimental to the blind faith on which it's based.

You are correct. Good point. The Christian religion is more political than anything-since it spread through forced conversion and conquering.

No,I'm Christian because a man died on a cross for my sins, and proved himself that he was the messiah by resurrecting from the dead as he had prophesied prior.

Mind you,I did not grow up in church,so I didn't have a lineage in a church of any kind.No coaxing of any kind was needed.

There's a reason why his word will never die,or never go away. There is a reason why his word is all over the world. There is a reason why the Holy Bible will never vanish. It's because Jesus said it would never be forgotten,or drove out.It will never vanish from the world.
