Well, Last week I got these old dressers and me and my dad started sanding them and he painted them before he went to work, and it was going to rain on the weekend, so mom says put them in the house, so I put them in my room, and I was cleaning and stuff for like over 5 hours with them in the room, smelling the strong paint I also had the windows open. And then my sinuses started swelling up, and my throat started to feel like a soar throat even though I have had my tonsils taken out, and I had a headache, I was just really tired from a long day.And I'm the type of peron who is really active and likes to do alot of stuff. And I was sick for about three days with a soar throat, and a runny nose, and I know it was from that paint. Now I notice that I cant concentrate on alot of things, like when I watch t.v I just zone out, and when someones talking to me, I zone out, or I'll forget what I was talking about. It's just not me. What do I do? Am I going to get better? I'm really worried

Well the long and short of it is maybe? Here is the deal there is a warning on labels of paint telling you to use in a WELL VENTILATED area and that is when the paint is fresh and new and drying.

It will get better but I may not sleep there until the air clears. Next time tell Dad to leave it in the garage till it is done curing. Paint will not be dangerous after the fumes are dissipated but before...

You may have inhaled what people refer to as inhalents like toluene or dangerous vapors in some paints. It does kill brain cells and can kill people but mainly kids who huff the paint in plastic bags. One of the cheaper and more stupid ways of getting high really.

For you it should clear up eventually. You could ask your doctor if this persists because prolonged exposure is dangerous but it all depends how much you were exposed in the 5 hours. Go get some fresh air and work out or walk around and get breathing fresh air and hopefully you will feel better. If you still feel bad you need to go to a doctor. It is like being poisoned.

Regular oil paints from an art store are not dangerous and neither is spray paint but well ventilated is best when painting walls or furniture. Not quite like a 11x24 oil painting in art class. Different paints.

You should really check with a doctor to find out for sure... but your supposed to use ventilation masks and the whole works when using oil based paints however, if you inhaled a large amount just like alcohol or pot your going to suffer some side effects. I would assume that the worse side effects will go away after a few days and make sure you get lots of fresh air... but you should go see a doctor.

odds are it's not the paint causing your problems, but a virus. if oil based paints caused brian damage, there would be a lot more drooling artists out there!!
