Well, to get accurate answers I think you have to be more specific about what you mean by "older" -- there's a big difference between, say, four years older and forty years older.

I don't particularly want to spend my life with someone significantly older than I am -- meaning, I'm not going out and looking for it (not the same thing as being opposed to it). Let's assume we're talking a 15-20 year age difference. But that doesn't mean I'd rule it out if I fell in love with a particular person (well, it does, actually, because I'm already married, but let's also assume I was single!)

There are lots of reasons why a woman would choose to marry or be otherwise committed to a significantly older man. Oftentimes it's a question of security -- be it financial or emotional. Believe it or not, there are time when a person finds they have a lot in common with someone who happens to be significantly older than they are, sometimes because of very particular life experiences. Some people honestly don't relate well to their peers. And some people are looking for a parent figure (again: security). Let's see, what are other reasons...sometimes it's sexual, not necessarily that the younger person has a fetish for older people or anything like that, but may find men her age too aggressive or too "interested," and her own sex drive may just not be on the same level (and I'll bet that Viagra has reduced the incidence of that particular reason!) And age difference or no, let's not forget the possibility that the two people fell in love.

If you're talking a difference of, say, 40 years...well, my own opinion (and goodness knows I'm no expert on this) is that typically the reason can be reduced to one word: security. Again, either it's a father-figure type situation, or a financial situation, or a psychological situation wherein the younger person feels empowered by the control she has (as the younger object of sexual desire).

That's my $0.02, more or less.

LOLOL the majority of women do marry a man older than themselves, but these days very few people spend their lives married to that same person. Besides, if you marry a man a LOT older than you, chances are he's going to check out long before the end of YOUR life and you'll have time to fit three or four more in.

Not TOO much older than me. I am 38 and he will be 51 in 2 weeks. He is someone who is secure in himself. He is caring, fun, funny, He likes ALOT of the same things I do. He's been there alot for me lately and I am there for him when he needs me. Yeah, I would like to spend my life with a man older than me.

Some people happen to love someone who is a different age. Unless there are some parent issues going on there's nothing wrong with it, women have been pairing with older men for ages. It might have something to do with the fact that men mature at a slower rate.

because I think its nasty to date younger boys unless you TRULY love them i never dated a younger boy and don't plant. they are the one to come and pick up the girl not the other way around, they are the one to protect the girl not the other way around, they are the ones to hold the girls when the are cold or scared, not the other way around, there suppose to lift the girl and carry her past something she doesnt want to past on her own not the other way around. So thats the reason i don't like to date younger men. I thinks its just WEIRD. There suppose to me the MAN.

It kind of depends on how old the person is! I mean I'm dating some one who is 3yrs older then me! We are the typical teenage couple!

You wouldn't because the whole "Grow Older TOGETHER" would go to waste. He/she is already older and wrinkly and would die before you.

If I was insecure, emotionally unstable, had low self-esteem or a father fixation, I might consider it. Fortunately I am not!
