You must go to a vet office. It's a requirement that they do a heartworm test every 6 mo. to a year to ensure that you don't waste money buying preventative when your dog is already positive.

You have to get them by prescription from the vet. This is because the dog has to be tested for heartworms before taking the pills. If he had it and took the pills, he could have a reaction.

You can only get it from the vet. If they are under 6months they can start with out being tested, because it takes 6 months for a heartworm to fully devlop. If they are older then they need to be tested frist because if you start it and they aready have the heartworms it can cause the worms to die and then because they live in the heart cause the dogs heart to stop. the 1800petmeds only works if you already have a prescription from your vet. They have to contact your vet in order to give it to you. Heartgard is a good brand to use because they have a guarantee if you start them as a puppy and get them tested yearly then if they do get heartworms they will pay for treatment (If you are consistent about giving it monthly and have records of buying it continuously) Others have similar guarantees. The heart worm meds also protect from some worms like rounds and hooks (depends on brand of protection) so it is double protection for your dog. You need to keep them on it yearround even if they are indoor dogs. All it takes is one mosquito in your house and boom your dog has heartworms. Hope this helps.

Trust me the price of prevention is cheaper than the 1000's of dollars to treat heart worms (and it is a painful treatment and you have to keep coming back to fully treat it)

you have to either go to the vet or clinic. They must do a heartworm test PRIOR to being to administer this drug. If you give a heartworm positive animal a heartworm preventative, they could die. So...first get your test. Then, either purchase them from the vet or use an online resource like Drs. Foster and Smith. It is a paper and online pet supply catalog. However, I believe they will confirm your test results prior to shipping...just like the contact lens websites confirm your prescription with your doctor.

Like everyone's been saying, you have to go to the vet so he/she can give your dog a heartworm test first to make sure your dog isn't already positive. This is b/c the pill will kill any worms inside the dogs heart immediately, causing a blockage and killing your dog.

Preventative heartworm medicines are prescription only, but are available at any pet store, petsmart, petco, etc.

However, if the dog already has been diagnosed with heartworms, then he needs to see the vet.

If you are asking for heartworm preventative, try 1800petmeds.com.

If you're talking about heartworm treatments, they can only come from the vet.

Heartworm meds are a prescription only item. You have to get the prescription from the vet.

I worked for a vet. You get this from him but you must give the pet a heartworm, test FIRST - otherwise if you give a pet medication, and it already has heartwork, the meds will harm/kill the pet.
