I do! It is a perfect way to RUIN a body... I mean, there is nothing sexier than something clean and pure... but to draw on yourself like a child, but have it there for the rest of your life is more than immature.

And for people who do it to "remember" their kids, dead relatives, or times in their lifes... were you going to forget? Do you look at the tattoo every morning and go "wait... I have a son??!?!? No way! Awesome!" ... I don't think so.

I'm 20 years old and I would never get a tatoo. It is an aboimination of God's gift to each and every person, their body. Dont draw on yourself, it's going to be there forever...

even when you're old and your skin saggs to the floor and you can't tell that it says your first wives name on it anymore... or when you're pregnant and that butterfly on your stomach looks like King Kong.

It's dumb. ... that's my opinion.. what's yours and why?

I couldn't agree more. My daughter called me today from college and told me that she got one and I broke down in tears. It's absolute crap when the person with the tatoo tries to declare the meaning of it.

By the way I begged my daughter not to do things to her body that would allow others to pass judgement or permenantly scar her.

It is a shame that tatoos have become a fad in today's society.

BTW - I am a young mom (41) and my daughter is just shy of 20. It's not like I am not hip about her partying, dating etc. I am very accepting of her - but the tatoo just about killed me.

I have a tattoo that I just got a few months ago and I love it, I couldn't be happier. I also understand your point of view. It's a very touchy subject for many people. I think it really does depend on your reasons for getting it and your personality. Tattoos can be a part of the healing process in remembering a loved one you have lost. I actually got mine to help me remember and honor my grandmother, some people don't understand that and I know that but it's just a difference in opinion, if your roomate wants a tattoo she should make the decision on her own not based on what other people think. My advice is just to think about the placement because people do judge others when they see a tattoo and you are right, when you are older it will not look the same, so it might be a good idea to put the first one in a discreet place. I don't think its bad to have tattoos but I do think it should be very well thought out, not done on an impulse, and defintley an individuals decision not a decision incfluenced by others.

Tats are very in right now and I have to admit to having three myself. However, I do believe that in the next 10 years of so that the laser tattoo removal business will be the career that is going to make a lot of people wealthy as many with this new found body emblems will look at them as mistakes. A lot of younger people are going to want to become professionals and as such will need to have their "special" memories or beliefs removed from their skin. When I was aged 15 I thought I was in love with this girl and like a fool had her name tattooed on my arm, well needless to say she isn't in my life any longer and so had to have another tat cover it. Also when young had a friend do a couple of tats that ended up looking like joint tats and needed to get a couple to cover them also by a tattooist. I think it is up to the person and much like yourself believe that many young people (girls especially) who have lovely little roses on their butts or breasts today are not going to be able to recognize these in years to come when gravity takes hold of their bodies later in life. But that said everyone needs to learn by themselves and so I cannot judge people by their choice of what they do to their bodies. Good luck in your poll and I'm sure that you'll find some interesting as well as immature responses.

I think that getting a tattoo is directly up to the individual. If tatoos are done right and placed appropriately than there is nothing wrong with them. Personally I have dated guys that have had tattoos and some without. It doesn't make a difference really. I am against a name tattoo you just never know how long any relationship will last. And who wants to have an ex's name with them forever.
I have dated guys both with and without tattoos. It doesn't change their character any. Both guys were mature and had their wits about them. Both went on to have successful careers and family.
The one guy that I dated had an eagle on on arm. the eagle was carrying an American Flag. Now that told me exactly how patriotic this man is.

Yes, I believe most tattoos are quite ugly, but that's not the only reason I have none. There's an old saying that you should never burn bridges behind you. In other words, don't do anything that can't be undone.
Right now tattoos are the "in" thing. A few years from now pure unblemished skin will be admired again. Diamonds are not forever- - - tattoos are.
Another reason for not being tattooed. The teens and twenties of today will someday be grandparents. Imagine a beautiful little grand-child saying, " Grandma ,why do you have all those ugly pictures on you skin, what did you do that made them do that to you"?
Some who almost pass out at the sight of a freckle think large smudges of red, blue, and green are beautiful. To each his own.

Oh, yes, I agree with you. It wasn't so bad when you saw just the odd one, but now they're two-a-penny they look so cheap. You don't see really elegant, stylish people with them, do you? Like French women? I was in France in the summer, and went to a pool. There were loads of Brits there. I noticed that all the British men & women seemed to have tattoos on their shoulder-blades; there was this sea of blue & green smudges (on podgy bodies, of course). The French didn't seem to have them at all, even the men, and they looked cleaner, somehow.

It's a Z-list celeb thing. The pictures of Jordan's wedding showed her bridesmaids in off-the-shoulder dresses, with an array of tattoos on shoulders and ankles. Yuck. How tacky.

I like to think I can be a blank canvas for different looks, clothes and jewellery if I want to. I wouldn't be able to do that; I'd always be someone with a tattoo. The worst are the blokes with tattoos on their hands or faces. They will never be treated well. It's unfair, but then we make judgements based on first impressions.

I hadn't thought of the 'abomination of God's gift' thing, but you're right. Tattoos are not allowed in the Jewish religion, and I imagine that the same applies to Islam. Any trendy vicars with them? I doubt it.

I started getting tattooed six years ago, on my 30th birthday. I love my tattoos, and my tattoo artist husband. I cannot foresee any time when I will regret having them, or getting more, as I'm planning. I'm well aware of how they will look as I age, and I'm fine with it. I've had no issues with employment, people looking down on me, and the proverbial "what will you say to your children" is really a non-issue. My kids have grown up with tattooed parents, and are happy, smart, and well-adjusted.

The people who regret their tattoos are the ones who are getting them for the wrong reasons.

I'm really glad that you're such a paragon of maturity at 20 years old that you can pass a sweeping judgment on a huge percentage of the world's population. Kudos, Peanut. Just remember, at least a little bit of everybody has tattoos. Cops, fire fighters, military, lawyers, doctors, nurses, paramedics, just about anyone you can think of. Would you really want to transmit that horrible attitude to someone who is aiding you in some way, or even saving your life? I really hope not.

I don't care if you ever get a tattoo or not, but I sincerely hope that you will tone down the holier than thou when dealing with tattooed people.

I have never found large tattoos attractive.

I used to think small tattoos, when done well, could be very attractive. They usually denoted a rebellious nature and someone fun. However, as I got older and as they have become more fashionable, I now find them a distraction and detriment to attractiveness. I think an expanse of naked skin is much more attractive, whereas a tattoo draws your eye like a blemish.

I like a tattoo here and there, but I personally think it is unattractive to have more than half of your body covered in ink. I have one tattoo and it is as small as a quarter and I don't think I'll ever get anymore, simply because I can't think of anything else that I would want stamped on me for the rest of my life.

I think it depends on what it looks like and if it suits the person. I know myself that I wouldn't look good with a tattoo so I don't bother with them.

I tried experimenting with a temporary tattoo to see if I would like it but I didn't so I made up my mind then.

I say to each their own.

I think that tattoos are a "fad" right now,and a way for many people, especially young people,to express themselves.A small indiscreet tattoo might be OK,but I don't like it when people cover their bodies with them.Good luck with your decision.
