We fed ours at 7am, 12:30pm, and around 5pm. You don't want the evening feeding to be much later than that or else you'll be getting up more often at night to let the dog out. Also be sure to pick the water up by 7pm, otherwise they'll be needing to go out to pee several times. Eventually the dog may stop eating during one of the feeding times and you can cut one out. However all large breeds should be fed twice daily. Luckily mine started free feeding and chooses to eat after I leave for work and once I sit down to eat dinner.

Hi there, I had a similar problem with my latest GSD pup and it's something I've never come across before, the breeder was only feeding the pups 3 times a day at 8 weeks old, it didn't seem quite right but she was thriving so I kept to it, you don't say how old your pup is? Try giving it it's first feed at around 6.30am then at 12.30 pm and again at around 6.30pm, don't offer anything in between, and if it walks away before it has finished a feed take it up & don't offer anything else until the next allotted feed time, you will soon be able to regulate it's feed time, the important thing to remember is not to let the pup dictate to you when it is fed, stick to your times always.

Until a pup is 12 weeks, he needs fed 4 times per day, at regular times that fit your own scedule, knowing that he will need to poop just a few minutes after eating.. After 12 weeks, you can reduce the mid day feeding until he is eating 3 times per day until about 8 months, when he can go to twice per day feedings for life.
Be sure to feed a Dobe a premium quality dog kibble, such as Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, or Wysong. Dobermans have an immune system that is slow to mature, so he needs all the good building blocks he will get from those high quality foods. ( I used to breed Dobermans)
another tip for Dobermans, don't feed or water from plastic bowls, as they tend to develop canine acne.

I believe in free feeding, leaving a full bowl of food out for the dog to eat when THEY are hungry. I believe that it reduces obesity in dogs as they don't scarf down their food as they don't have to worry about when they are going to get fed again. I also believe that free feeding reduces food aggressiveness as they don't feel that they have to defend their food from anyone or anything else because it is always there when they want it.

You should feed them about 3 times a day when they are small then a small meal in the morning and evening once they are older. a dobermanns stomach is sensative, try a dry food like walfco rather than pedigree chum.

In the morning and at night is generally the best.
However what is most important is to feed him at the same time everyday.
Make sure he has a routine so he can get used to it.
That way he can eat, sleep go pee, around your schedule (although it will take time)

In the morning. If you feed late in the day, they could poop all over the place during the night. If you feed them early, they got the whole day to clear their tummy's.

Did you think to ask the breeder before you got the dog? For goodness' sake - go get a book, or Google dog care seeing as you have access to the big world wide web.
I pity the dog if you don't even know when or how to feed it.
Jeez. How annoying are you.
