Yes you can make soup, stew, nacho sauce. You can also cook roasts and whole chickens.

I would suggest trying Walmart or Target. My favorite is Rival slow cookers which have the heating element separate and the cooking pot is alum.with teflon coating. I like the lighter pot as it is easier to handle over the heavy ceramic ones.

You can also find nice slow cookers on Ebay in your price range too.

Most Slow cookers do a fairly nice job the new hamilton beach ones with the locking lids are about $25.00 and worth every penny. They are great when you need to take food to other places. You can fix nearly anything in a crockpot, Nacho Sauce made with Velvetta is great, Cut up the velveeta log and add Rotel sauce and even fried /drained hamburger for a twist. You can cook roasts in there all day and it will be ready when you get home from work, you can cook a whole chicken and take it out debone the chicken after cooking save the broth and make Chicken and dumplins or Chicken and Noodles with Reems Noodles, Boil the noodles on the stove and then add some chicken stock and broth and pieces of the chicken and wha la. there is a good cook book called FIX IT AND FORGET IT! for Crockpot reciepes. It is a life saver, you can also make lasagne with the new NO BOIL noodles. I have 3 Crockpots Small, med and large, look at the Quart size, 2 cans of Chili and 1 loaf of Velvetta for best Chili Cheese Sauce serve with fritos scoops!

Yes you can make soup& nacho cheese sauce. The Wal-mart stores have good slow cookers at the price you want. When you get the cooker, you need to see how hot HI is and how hot LOW is.They all cook at different degrees.Remember---It will cook faster if you put hot water when needed in your recipe---and try not to lift the lid too often.

You can use a slow cooker for just about anything. I have beef stew cooking in mine right now. I bought both of mine at Wal-Mart. They were cheap and have lasted a long time.
