I have a really great job as a bartender, but I quit smoking about a month ago, and now whenever I work, I feel like I smoked a pack of cigarettes the next morning. Why bother quitting if I still feel like crap? The problem is that everything else about the job is great... the people, my boss, my hours, and so on. Grrr! Such a hard decision.

I think that you should do what you think is right. If you can't stand the fact that when you wake up you feel like that then you should definitely quit. Your health is a lot More important than money. Plus, you can always go in there once a week just to hang out and see everyone. So you can be healthy and happy at the same time.

Good Luck!!!

It is a tough choice. Are you wanting to quit the job because of the environment there of smoke? In Ohio we just passed a controversial ban on smoking. Obviously people take sides on this. I felt that is unfair for a bar to cancel smoking and they should let entertainment places of business decide themselves. Not like an office space. Aside from the issues there it is obviously effecting you personally.

You are probably having a tougher time because you just quit.
What you have to ask is like when you are in a relationship with a person and you find out there are some problems you don't like about them. Are the benefits of doing one thing going to outweigh the effects of quitting and loss of some benefits to staying.

Maybe you can change some aspects of your duties to get out of the environment for a while and take a break. Maybe work in a desk or back area sometimes. You may come to a point where you have to decide but when it comes to work it is always better to have another job on the side when you quit.

If you like the people you can always keep in touch or visit. You can always make more money at new jobs usually.

Maybe they can work things out for you and have you stay?
Or here is an even better one maybe you are a great person and that is why the people and job are so good because you make it that way and you may have a similar experience at a new one?

Good luck.

My 2nd attemt on quiting smoking i was a dj for a bar! only worked 2 nights a week! money was good!
I ended up smoking again!
now over a year later I was blessed with a new full time job and I finally kicked the buts!

I can't say quit your job! jobs are hard to find! but i would start looking into a new job/career. if you find something go with it with out quitting your job! I just would hate to have you not have a job and i see a lot of that around latlely!
I don't want to tell you to start smoking again either! but what is worth more to you at this moment and what other steps can you take to stay smoke free and keep your job!
have you talked to your cool boss about this! maybe you can get a day shift or find something that works more for you new healthy lifestyle!
I do know it's hard to not smoke while your working in a bar~! It lasted 1 month for me!

Good luck

Yes, there is now proof that second hand smoke can be worse than actually smoking. Find a different job then quit this one. If you like bartending, look for restaurants with good ventilation systems.

Ugh! Thats a tough one. ?Maybe you could bartend at a restaurant that is non-smoking? Quitting is soooo good, second-hand smoke is soooo not! It's like what was the point of trying to stay healthy if other people are making u sick?

if you like the job there has to be a way to get around the cigarette thing. try taking some vitamins or something like that after work, before you go to sleep so you feel better in the morning, try vitamin b6 and b12 ( fuze is a good drink for that, they are good too...lol) they will make yo feel better. try stuff out and if nothing works then and ONLY then you should consider quiting
hope i helped

You just traded your own pack of smokes for a pack's worth of second-hand smoke. I think you need a new job, frankly. Congratulations on your decision to quit! (smoking, job, both, whatever)

It has been proven that second hand smoke is as dangerous if not more than smoking itself.....If you are concerned about your health change to a bar that is nonsmoking like in a restaurant...If you really want to stay, get a small fan and place in your area to help circulate the air. Also see if owner will install a venting system to remove smoke and stale air.......Hope this helps....

Ask your boss if they would install better smoke removal machines. I used to go to this one place that even when packed the machines worked wonders.
