No they are not safe. My son has some and he fell and dislocated his elbow. He hasn't touched them since and that was 2 years ago.

I have a 5 yr old and he has them. The reason i got them was because my 10 yr old brother has them and then my 5yr old decided that he has the itch for them but he doesnt know a thing about skating and i havent had any problems or accidents yet and hopefully never! It depends on the parent. I personally dont see a problem with it because im willing to help my 5 yr old learn and im willing to have the patience to hold him or whatever it is i need to do to teach him how its done. As long as youre around when he has them on and you dont have with skating around in an area where hes likely to get hurt then i dont see why you shouldnt get them. Oh yeah and if you have the space for it in the house, why not let him practice a bit at home. Its not going to create or be a problem unless you dont have control over it and im sure that since youre the parent and hes only 5 that there will be plenty of control so that he wont get hurt and so he wont be one of those kids that use those heelys in inapropiate places.

I see kids everywhere with them on. If he plans on wearing them to school prepare for trouble. I don't really know about your school but ours it's against the rules and has been in a lot of schools in the area. So if you buy these shoes think he could also wear them to class you should call the school first to be sure.

I think they should be safe, I would think they are safer than inline skates. Those things are very hard to stand up on for little ones. Or at least they were/are for my son, but he's not athletic at all. That's his down fall. :)

I hope your child enjoys them if you get them.

Is crack safe for anyone? The answer to your question and that question are one in the same. I wouldn't want a 5 year old skating around me at the super market and that is what your son will turn into that annoying kid, EVERYWHERE. With those damn Heely's.

I would like to hang every parent who gets those damn things for their kids. The kids "skate" around shopping malls and grocery stores running into shoppers and sometimes knocking them down. Around here a couple of the malls have actually banned those types of shoes because they are a hazard.

It's all dependent on how good your son is with skates.. My son is 5 and thank goodness doesn't want that crap... If he wants to skate i'll take him to a rink... I've seen the kids skating around in Wal-mart and they run in to everything and everyone.. Anyways... It's really up to you.. Good luck to you

i have a five year old as well and he wants those too but i opted to get him carpet skates to start they sell them at fingerhut.com and fit almost everyone. try those first the cost is way less than the heely's and if he can handle those he can handle the others. 20.00 for the carpet skates and 75 for the other good luck=)

There was actually an article on yahoo news/homepage about 2-3 weeks ago explaining the most dangerous gifts, and those were right at the top of the list.

I guess they would be safe enough. I just don't like them because of the kid's that roll around in store and run in to you and everything else. The only way I would get them for my daughter is if they were only a toy. But that's just my personal feelings.
