A 3-year-old is going to get bored with his toys very quickly, so instead of getting a few expensive things that will be broken or ignored after a week, I'd suggest buying a lot of cheap things-like action figures, or discount childrens PC games with some action (although probably not very violent - for example, my younger brother loved Disney games, such as Toy Story. PC games will also keep him entertained much longer than a radio-controlled car or train set, which could end up easily broken. Not to mention that they can also be educational, and won't annoy you like a noisy electronic toy would, and if he enjoys them, they'll keep him quiet when you have guests over or want to rest.
I'd avoid anything like an Xbox o
r Playstation until he's older-he's too young right now, and won't be able to tell the difference from an expensive and cheap gift. He's probably gonna be more interested in quantity, as in lots of cheap action figures, than quality.

How about a personalized book? Kids really love to hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles to choose from like Sesame Street, Batman, Spider-Man, Dinosaur Land, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Three Little Pigs and so many more. They are so cute and very reasonably priced....a unique & educational gift! Check it out and good luck...

Books – some are available with age appropriate pages that are also puzzles.
Make a memory and read the book with enthusiasm and a lot of silly humor
a three year old will laugh at.

Balls are almost always a favorite. He is old enough to be interested in the regular sized ones. Also, the baseball mitts with the velcro are great. Those markers that won't mark on anything but special paper are always a winner.

Depends on what the boy likes. It seems like a lot of boys at that age like trains and big trucks. My son who is almost 3 likes Little People toys, pretend cooking, and his doodle pro.
