Ok, you feel abortion is wrong, I don't agree with that, but I can understand the sentiments.

Problem is, abortions happen anyway, whether somebody else likes it or not.

This question is about embryonic stem-cell research.

Assuming abortions take place anyway, what is your position on the subject:

A) stem-cell research can save lives; If the abortion has taken place anyway, please let them do research on the embryo in order to save other lives.

B) I simply refuse to wanna know that abortions take place anyway, so I believe that embryonic stem-cell research kills babies.

I think it's something like whether to use the medical research obtained during the Holocaust. On the one hand, it's valuable data which we will (hopefully) never again have an opportunity to gather. On the other hand, if we benefit from it, then something good happened as a result of murdering millions of people.
So for Pro-Lifers, benefiting from an abortion is wrong because it implicitly condones abortion.

At least, that's what I gather. I'm Pro-Choice myself, and I don't consider embryos to have human rights because they are not human - we're talking about a couple of cells that can't even be seen without a microscope.

Besides, the other source of stem cells is the left-overs from in vitro fertilization. Does anybody complain that it's "murder" to throw away all the unused embryos? Must we instead implant each and every one into the mother's womb, forcing her to have 8 or 10 children instead of just one? What's the difference between throwing away the extra embryos from in vitro, and discarding an unwanted embryo from an accidental pregnancy? And doesn't it make more sense in either scenario to put the embryo to good use curing diseases, rather than throwing it away?

also, it's good to see you again, mark.

You do not need abortions for stem-cell research. The debate is really over whether or not unused embryos, which we have thousands, have the same rights as a fertilized embryo. So yes I support any technicalogical advancement that can help man kind. However I do not agree that anyone has the right to take a beating life. It is the knowledge of what you do that is condeming. I agree with the Day after pill, because you are merely taking percautions against a result of having sex. To have a human being formed and to make the consious decision to take its life is despicable. No person nor government (as in the death penalty) has the right to take another's life.

You should have a choice C. Stem cells taken from aborted fetal tissue are not stable, and have been nearly useless in stem cell research. Stem cell research is GREAT...if they use cells from the umbilical cord of a healthy, live baby. These cells have proven to be far more stable and valuable in research and development of new treatments for disease, etc.
So, to answer the question, abortion IS killing a baby, YES, it's going to keep happening, but stem cell research and the abortion issue shouldn't be related.

First of all I am as pro-life as people get. I am a result of a one-night stand from my biological mother . . . . and I was adopted into a wonderful Christian family who never kept the fact that I was adopted from me. Now on to your questions . . . . Yes I feel abortion is wrong. Technically "abortions" happen - wether by miscarriages or from a clinic. . . . anyway
I don't believe that stem-cell research kills babies. I agree that stem cell research has made awesome medical advances, and we are learning alot from it. I don't believe that eggs that have been harvested for In-vitro fertilization should be fertilized and grown for the SOLE PURPOSE of using them for the research. But using aborted babies, I don't see a problem with, UNLESS they are aborted for the SOLE PURPOSE of the research. Does that answer your question?

Any way you slice it, to me it's still taking a life. Abortion and embryonic stem cell research is creating a child and then killing it. THere are other methods of stem cell research, why use this one? I will continue to fight against both abortion and embryonic stem cell research.

If the blastula/embryo/fetus is going to be murdered no matter what, at least let its death be meaningful. There's still a long way to go to get this abomination removed from the planet, let the victims serve SOME purpose.

---

Added: I love seeing all the atheists treating this like its a theist/atheist discussion. I'm a hard-core atheist and have taken college level biology coursework and still consider abortion to be an abomination (I *LIKE* that word. I shall make it my word of the day! It sounds so final and absolute).

Maybe this should be a 'when does life begin' discussion instead? At least that would be vaguely objective, as opposed to religion, which would be purely subjective.

That's kinda like the ends justifying the means. We would like to see abortions stopped, therefore we can't justify the other. .... If a cure of some sort is found, would that mean killing more babies?? It doesn't jive. I don't believe that God would make the only cure involve killing others. It isn't His way.

In this day and age where money takes precedence over everything woman, young girls will be getting pregnant for the sole purpose of selling fetus'. Any time you take morals out of situations it only desensitizes people to the fact of how little worth there is to life.

I am against abortion, but for stem cell research.

Just because they murdered a child in the first place does not mean it's alright to condone the research. If they condone the research you given the OK for abortions.
