Because of the different in how much a CD (700mb) holds compared to what a DVD holds (4,700mb), you can not fit the content of an entire DVD on to a CD.

Despite the limitation imposed by the storage size of the CDR, there are a couple of ways to compress the video content of the DVD and make it fit on a CDR. You will lose a little bit in terms of image and sound quality, but usually the results are decent. You should read about MP4 or DIVX encoders for this purpose.

You can use a CD-RW drive to make discs that will play in a DVD player. If you use Nero or Easy CD Creator, they will both convert the file internally for you so it will play correctly.
