Let the Modern matron have the power the old matrons had. Standards have dramatically slipped with the dramatic increase in non nursing/medical people taking the reigns and constantly looking for ways to save money. You don't allow un licensed people behind a steering wheel of a car alone or it will crashExample terminally ill 58year old bowel almost totally obstructed was to have an altered texture diet - puréed almost like paste. Saturday morning Chef of sick, manager will not allow anything other than weetabix, toast or cornflakes!!!!!!! So sorry Mum they left you to starve on those days! The manager didn't not allow us to bring in an alternative i.e. soup fromage frai etc because its against Health and safety rules! Oh and the poor staff themselves couldn't leave the ward to have a hot meal on a 23 hour shift because it took to long for there breaks. The manager STOPPED the outside company who delivered fresh food sandwiches, pasta, salad etc because it looked BAD on the hospital.

i dont think we can complain much about the NHS because atleast we have some free medical care whereas in different countries you have to pay.

I worked in the health system in different countries and now in the UK and can say that (not just in the UK) : It is not the Health System which is bad, it is the people working in it !!!!!!!!!

There are excellent nurses, doctors and other staffs, but also many many unprofessionals who shouldnt be in this profession. For all sorts of reasons. Plus, patients themselves, relatives and other visitors need to be better educated.

It is essential that there is a sister in charge who is fullfilling her duty in being responsible for ward hygiene, cleanders need to be more and better educated and probably need to be paid better to do a better job.

Tony Blair is pumping so much money in our system here, and the managers are not able to deal with it. It is wasted and god knows where else it is going to...

Also think it is a disgrace how some health professionals treat the elderly. No dignity, no privacy, no empathy no nothing. Hope these people never get into the situation of being dependend of someone else, they will be the first ones to complain.
You wonder why we have a prof. conduct....?

My husband has just come out of hospital after heart surgery.The cleaner in relatives toilet used same cloth in toilet bowl as she used on sink. Matrons nurses or sisters cant follow these people to see if they are doing job properly. I will be complaining in writing regarding this. This woman also told me she works in the wards.

Give the workers decent breaks and maybe the work force will improve.
Nursing homes take in so much money, the patients ought to be fed decent meals and need more care.
Hire someone that knows something about healing foods, instead of feedin the folks greasy crap;
