turn on the first switch and leave it on for a while. Then switch it off.and switch the second switch on. Go upstairs and feel the lightbulbs; the first switch goes with the hot lightbulb, the second switch goes with the lightbulb which is on and the cold one goes with the 3rd switch.

All three light bulbs are upstairs so try each switch downstairs until you get the right one. The other two control 1. a light down stairs and 2. a light outside the front door

I saw this puzzle on one of those reality tv shows and a bright student got it right, but I don't remember what the answer was. I'll have to say that the switches and bulbs are probably in a place where you can see the wiring of the individual bulbs connected to its respective switches downstairs, so that's how you know which switch belongs to which light bulb.

First turn any 2 switches on downstairs wait a couple minutes, switch one of them back off. Go up stairs the switch you left on belongs to the on light. the Swith you switch on and off belongs to the hot off light, and the swith you never touched belongs to the off cool light.

Turn one switch on for about 10 minutes & switch it off.Turn the other one on and go int the room. Thus we can determine it as the one which has not been onned, the other which has just been onned & the bulb which is off but it's glass is hot as it was on for ten minutes.
