I'm having lower back pain on both sides just below my ribcage. Could this be kidney touble?

Yes, it can. There are lots of reasons for severe lower back pain; metastatic prostate cancer, a slipped disc, compression fractures. I'd get to the doctor right away. If it's a kidney infection, you need treatment ASAP.

You sound like me until 2 years ago. My family doctor gave me a referral to a spinal specialist. I had an MRI and a series of cortisone shots into the lumbar area which made me pain free. As I had been told they would stop working eventually, and they did, I would need surgery. I had a spinal fusion, 2 days in hospital and rather a long recovery time with physio but pain free since the op. Yours might be different but the 1st step is the MRI and a specialist. Good luck.
