My boyfriend has been having Dry (unproductive) cough for nearly a year now. He has gone to multiple doctors, had chest X-rays, blood tests, and a Cat scan and everything comes back negative (meaning he has no signs of anything wrong). The cat scan was the most recent. He is getting extremely aggrivated and has no clue what it is and what to do. So far they have tried giving him Advair (didn't work), Albuterol (didn't work),Prednisone (didn't work), Ciproflauxin (didn't work), and he has tried cough drops, robitussen, Nyquil, dayquil, and other over the counter cough suppressants. If anyone has any idea or anything we can do please let me know. I am getting worried. The cough just keeps getting worse and it seems there is no end to this in the near future since the Doctor's are just saying "here try this" over and over with no results.

Please tell me all you can

It sounds like a lower esophagus irritation:
The 'try this' technique is the correct one.

Consider:
Physical irritation which hasn't settled. (codeine linctus)
Stress cough in teachers (take a holiday)
Allergy seasonal or continuous (tests and antihistamines)
Post-nasal drip. (due to rhinitis)
Snoring
Traffic fumes (NOx's). (Produces rubber like discharge in nose)

You could try experimenting with Antibiotic then a steroid spray.

i've suffered coughs for periods of up to 3 months. the last time, i finally went to the doctor and he prescribed an antibiotic and the cough went away.

since you seem to have tried everything possible, the best thing you can do for the time being is to find ways to make it more tolerable. another doctor (although a cardiologist) suggested chewing gum to moisten the throat. good luck

Since ordinary medicine has failed him, have you tried alternative medicine or homoeopathy? Contact the Sunday Times columnist Jennifer Harper-Deacon who is a naturopathic physician. She might be able to advise. Alternative?Style,The Sunday Times, 1 Pennington Street, London E98 1ST. Put an SAE with your letter. By the way, could he be allergic to the house dust mite? It lives even in the cleanest of households and does affect some people in the way you describe. I take it you have no pets he could be allergic to.
