My boyfriend has been having Dry (unproductive) cough for nearly a year now. He has gone to multiple doctors, had chest X-rays, blood tests, and a Cat scan and everything comes back negative (meaning he has no signs of anything wrong). The cat scan was the most recent. He is getting extremely aggrivated and has no clue what it is and what to do. So far they have tried giving him Advair (didn't work), Albuterol (didn't work),Prednisone (didn't work), Ciproflauxin (didn't work), and he has tried cough drops, robitussen, Nyquil, dayquil, and other over the counter cough suppressants. If anyone has any idea or anything we can do please let me know. I am getting worried. The cough just keeps getting worse and it seems there is no end to this in the near future since the Doctor's are just saying "here try this" over and over with no results.

Please tell me all you can

That sounds like what my husband went through. Has your boyfriend been tested for acid reflux or sleep apnea?

If he drinks a lot of sodas, have him stop and try giving him fruit juices and teas instead. Make sure he is eating right: During the time whem he was coughing worst, my husband was skipping a lot of meals. And try papaya enzyme tablets, available at your local health food store. For a time, Prilosec worked all right for my husband- then it started making him sick.

Good luck!

Well you didnt say whether or not he smokes, which is obviously a factor in how this question would be answered. But it all seems to point to an allergy of some kind. Has he undergone allergy tests??? Go to a specialist.. they can do tests to pin point the problem.

Since ordinary medicine has failed him, have you tried alternative medicine or homoeopathy? Contact the Sunday Times columnist Jennifer Harper-Deacon who is a naturopathic physician. She might be able to advise. Alternative?Style,The Sunday Times, 1 Pennington Street, London E98 1ST. Put an SAE with your letter. By the way, could he be allergic to the house dust mite? It lives even in the cleanest of households and does affect some people in the way you describe. I take it you have no pets he could be allergic to.
