Again, I know it is a poor country, but does it have pretty beaches, cool rainforests or anything of interest if I travel there?

I was very impressed with Nicaragua. To tell you the truth i was not very happy on going there once a month for a large period of time. Its a country that has a lot of natural beauty. Managua, the capital city, is not a pretty city, but you can find pretty interesting places, like a volcanic lagoon in the city center where you can admire spectacular views of Managua. Close to Managua you can find spectacular places like active volcanoes, Lake Nicaragua with its islands, Granada, Leon, more volcanic lagoons.
I really enjoyed so much Nicaragua and I will recommend it 100%, more than Costa Rica itself.

Nicaragua has had political problems over the years. The cities aren't that nice, but it is beautiful. I would recommend you to visit Costa Rica, though. and I know this because I live in Costa Rica and it is beautiful, especially the beaches.

everyone I know who has been there is quite impressed with its (non-urban) beauty, but also notes its dire poverty. People are dirt-poor but friendly, while one friend described people in urban areas walking around casually with semi-automatic weaponry (no other account corraborated that).
The lake area is a place people particularly point out, and there is an island that many people go to.
