Could you not just make a cake and then cut your pieces out of the big cake to make your own design? I have done that before my self. I mean once the icing is on the cake and decorated, nobody will know that you "pieced" it together.

If you are trying to re-create a London Bobby's helmet, I would go with a round cake pan, like you might use for layer cake. Make about 4 layers (so two boxes of cake mix), then when cooled, use a bit of icing as 'mortar' to hold the layers on top of one another. Once you have the layers stacked, you will want to use a long bread knife to carve off the bits of cake you don't need until you expose the shape of the helmet. Remember to only take off a little at a time -- it is far easier to take off more than it is to try to put it back on. Finally, mix food colour into your icing to create the colour you wish to decorate your cake with. Good luck!

Well, too bad ur not Canadian (but if u r, pay attention) cuz we have a franchise (it's quite popular across a lot of Canada, but not sure how much of Canada) that sells dry bulk (called the bulk barn) food items. baking items.........numerous things. It also cater's to people wanting to make specialty cakes like u want to. They will rent u the tin, then u take it back after ur done with it!!!
Look around for such places or go into a bakery & c if they can help u in any way! Good luck!!!! ZETA

That might be a bit hard to find. But you could always get those slightly flexible strips of metal that stay in there position after you've morphed them. An aeroplane shouldn't be too hard to build...
