The best exercise for improving your handwriting is to practice. Try sitting down and writing slower and concentrate more on what you are trying to write. After awhile try speeding up but keeping the same form as when you write slower.

I think your handwriting is determined at an early age. I don't know how you could change it besides breaking out of your normal habit.
Maybe a whole lot of practice would work. I mean, look at how many years you've been doing it the way you do it, it would take a while to break out of it.

Go to an Educational Store, where the teachers go to buy their supplies. Look in the Elementary Education section and find a primer and workbook for Cursive Writing.

Probably ask someone what their method of holding their pencil/Pen and go from there. Because that's what the reason is. someone has bad hand writing is because of how they hold the pencil usually is the problem.

avoid using smoother pens...
use more often a pencil.... or a fountain pen
they way they grip the page ... makes u a lil more control of ur hand writing
