I think it depends on the person and their lifestyle. Cats are good for people who want a pet, but who may not be able to spend a lot of time with it. Since cats are more independent than dogs this usually works well. Cats also are able to spend a day or two by themselves so if a person travels a lot, they don't always have to worry about what to do with the cat if they are only going to be gone overnight. Dogs are best for people who want a constant companion. A dog really needs you to spend lots of time with him. They require more care. You can't just leave them overnight. If you work long hours or have to travel a lot then a dog is probably not the best match for you. I have dogs and cats and I really love both. It is hard for me to decide which I would rather have.

I think cat. But everyone is different. I think it all depends on your personality and what you have time for.

Dogs need extra attention and need to go for daily walks. Cats on the other hand have a litter box and are very independant. I work M-S for 9+ hours, so I have a cat. I want a dog, but right now it just wouldnt be fair to the pup.

I LIKE BOTH BUT REMEMBER THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANIMALS

DOGS ARE PACK ANIMALS AND AS LONG AS IT EXCEPTS YOU AS THE LEADER OF THE PACK .oops ,sorry for the caps things are fine but remember they will challenge your authority at times. They can not be left alone and the need to go out side often. dogs are good if you have a yard

CATS are loners and very sensitive to change- A cat will only accept you on its own terms,, if you want a well adjusted cat, do thing and work with it when they are very young.
-- hold it often-- or as it gets older it will not allow you to hold it
-- do not use your hand as a toy--IMPORTENT-- hands are for petting only.
-- have people around--or it will hide when ever you have company.
-- talk to it often. USE ITS NAME ALL THE TIME
-- get it used to a leash and harness early-- if you intend to walk it
-- take it for car rides early.
--- cats do not respond to punishment. you will only drive it away from you.
read up on cat behavior.
Anyone can have a good dog with little effort-- but to have a good cat can require a lot of work and understanding.

I have two dogs, but I really like cats. Dogs are loyal and cats are standoffish at times. Cats use a box and you have to take dogs out.
They are both such different animals that i can't decide.
I think cats are less work and you get more love from dogs, but then again I did have a cat that acted just like a dog...

Both dogs and cats can be wonderful pets. As for my preference, cats are my favorite. They are independent for th most part (You do have to feed them & clean their box), you dont have to take them on walks (Especially nice if you live in an apt.), etc

I used to want a dog but my husband didn't, so we kind of compromised and got a cat. I don't regret it for one second. She is so cuddly and sweet and she is always waiting for us at the door when we get home. She gives us lots of attention and loves to play with toys and shoestrings. But, when we go out of town for the weekend, we don't have to kennel her or take her in the car for a six hour drive, like you do with dogs.
I still love dogs, but for my lifestyle, cats are better.
p.s. I always hate it when I am out with friends and ask them if they want to go to dinner or do something else and they say "no, I really need to get home so I can let the dog out".... just a thought!

I personally like dogs better, because you can actually do things with them. Like go the park or go for a run. Cats just sleep all day.

what ever you think is the best. dogs are fun because you can take them for walks, teach them neat tricks and it is usually said that a dog is a mans best friend. now a cat is good also, if they are a good cat they keep the mice population down, they like affection, cats are also known to be good stress relievers if you aren't alergic to them. the sound of their purr always relaxes me some times puts me to sleep.
