I want to have 2 ear piercings on the upper part of my left ear but I'm afraid of infections. My classmate had pierced the upper part of her ears and it was infected after a week. Although the wound had healed, her ears became swollen and they still are! Another friend of mine told me that I could be blind if it is pierced at the wrong places.....I really want to have upper ear piercings but I am not willing to risk my health for the sake of beauty if there's 70% possibility that I will have infections.

As long as you keep it clean you will be fine. When you are finally able to take them out, be sure to soak them in a 1:1 ratio of water and peroxide. There is also a very small risk of the needle hitting a nerve when you have this done.

There really isn't anywhere in the ear that you can't pierce. Any infection you may get is based on how well you take care of it. As in cleaning it and not playing with it until after it's healed. I have an industrial piercing (goes throw my upper cartiladge and then down through the center of my right side - if that makes sense? you can google it) and it takes up to 6 months to heal. I have not had any infection in it but I know others who have because of over cleaning or under cleaning. So if it's something you really want, go for it, just make sure you get the proper care instructions.

And your friend who said you'd go blind from a certain spot, they're crazy, there's nothing in your ear that will make you go blind.

I was 14 when i did this at a sleep over party in the cartilage with ice and a big needle that we put in hot water from TCP and it Frigging killed, we saw Grease and the did it in Sandy's lobe and I was Game a bleeding idiot. I ended up going to hospital as i hid it from my mum and the ear tried to heal over the earring as i was 2 small and it got badly infected. It was more painful than I can explain a strand of hair getting caught in the back of the stud and i was sobbing It really frigging killed more than it was worth! The hospital told me this earring could have caused some type of poisioning and i was luck it was not more serious now i am left with and ugly looking lumpy part on the top of my ear This is why you go to a body piercing place that is registered as they have the correct equipment to do the piercing and the correct sized earrings and know all about the after care and possible side effects. I don't know how old you are to come up with this stupid idea of wanting to do it yourself. There are still chances that getting it done by a profesional it can get infected what do you think those chances are if you do it yourself at home. Much higher i know! At places like Clares Accessories it cost less than £10 to get it done and you get the after care you need. Why risk doing it yourself to save a bit of money or whatever your intentions are when you are more likely to end up paying more than it would have cost to have it pierced in a shop in the first place on cream and antibiotics when it does get infected. I would sugest going to the piercing places in town and asking questions and finding the best place to get it done that suits you than doing it yourself. I know if sounds so simple to do but i know from doing it myself as a teen its really not work the pain and should be done by an expert.

anytime you get a piercing you are at risk. you are opening yourself up and placing a foreign object through you. yeah, doesn't sound pretty.

and no, you won't become blind from any piercing in your ear. totally outrageous.

i had a cartilage piercing when i was in like 7th grade, and didn't take care of it and it got infected. i still have the scar tissue and it feels like a big bump.

after high school i got an industrial piercing and was VERY careful with it. i cleaned it with sea salt daily for a month or so, and it's been about 3 years and i still have never taken it out. i am the only person i know who hasn't had trouble with my industrial, and i think it has to do with not taking it out.

people are always so anxious to change piercing hardware out when their piercing isn't ready. when you get pierced, have the piercer put in something you can live with for about a year, and just don't take it out or touch it while it is healing.

if you get ur upper ear pierced, go to a good tatoo parlor. they are more sanitary that claires or icing. going to a tatoo parlor decreases your risk of an infection. You cant go blind by getting it peirced the wrong way. If an infection occurs try changing your earing to a good brand like a dimond.

it is 'safe' to have it done but i wouldn't recomend it. it does look wicked but they do tend to infect really easily.
if you do go and have it done make sure you keep it clean with salt water. don't use that cleaning stuff they give you because that can infect the pierced area.
good luck in your choice
