I just read that Gad is the original translation of God and Yahweh was another deity. Is that true?

Why does each translation have it different. What is being covered up?

11But you who forsake the Lord, who forget and ignore My holy Mount [Zion], who prepare a table for Gad and who furnish mixed drinks for Meni

11 “But because the rest of you have forsaken the Lord
and have forgotten his Temple,
and because you have prepared feasts to honor the god of Fate
and have offered mixed wine to the god of Destiny,

Yahweh, like Jehovah, comes from the way God is written in Hebrew, yod hey vav hey, which are basically equivalent to Y H V H. As there's no J or W equivalent in Hebrew, yod can transliterate to Y or J, and vav can transliterate to V or W (I'm thinking German...). Add in the appropriate vowels, and you get the name of choice.

As for Gad or God, beats me.

I hope you are actually reading the Bible and not some Ateist commentary.

It used to be in the KJV that when the name used for God was different they used a different word in the translation. Lord was one of those words. At one time I studied this out and the conclusion I came to was that YHWH was the Holy Spirit and Elohim was the office we refer to as God the father.

Remember this once again. The Bible is an effort to communicate truths which do not fit very well into our languages. The Hebrew was a language of pictures and Greek more of ideas that flow rather than pictures that flash. Then there is english where there is only one word for love. So in transferance there are things lost which in order to regain help becomes necessary. That is why many oif us pray b4 we read.

Know too that while there is truth in the Word you may not be ready for the whole truth. I know I am not because each time I read new things are revealed.

For the most accurate read stick with the Amplified and if you are up to a challenge then get the Companion Bible which has a commentary by Bullenger. The man was definately inspired.

The human condition is a problem. Look arouind u. U R definately smart enough to C this is true. U 2 R human and when a human wants to improve the first step is to admit they have a problem. Then the next wise step is to ask for help, What could it hurt other than your pride to ask the author for help?? If U do B sure 2 ask that it be obvious U were helped.

Gad was the God of Good Luck. A false god. It's speaking of one that forsakes YHWH, the only True God, for a false god, Gad.
