Hi, My dog was injured this weekend adn now has a bandage on her leg. She is dying to go for a walk adn run but as I was told by the vet , not to get the bandage wet, what can I put on it to make sure this doesnt happen? She is a dalmation adn needs her exercise, and I need to get back into her good books as she holds me responsible for taking her to that nasty place (the vet).

also, as a result of being majorly pissed off at me,s he sakes as soon as I go near her or speak to her. I have alwasy treated her with the utmost respect adn tell her how much I love her everyday (im a sap), its breaking my eart that she seems to hate me. I always take her out for long walks at the weekend (6 hrs) no matter what the weather shoves at us. I just dont know how to get back into her good books.

Your dog is not "mad at you" for taking her to the vet. Dogs who are in pain often react this way when approached. Try to not stare at her or make eye contact, especially since she's not feeling good. She will tell you when she's uncomfortable by licking her lips, yawning, turning her head and/or body away from you, blinking, and sniffing the ground. She may do just 1 or 2 of these things, or all of them.
Can you put the bandage inside a plastic bag and tape it? You may need to get a friend to help.
I would also hold off on the 6 hour long walks until this has healed. Didn't the vet give you some guidance about how to manage walks with your dog?
good luck

There is a book called the dog whisperer you need to read it.
this is a dog we are talking about not a human, if you treat it the way your treating it now you are going to end up with a whole lot of problems in the future- jealously, violence, uncontrolable etc
please learn how to understand your dog, you are actually being cruel to it by giving it the idea that it can in some way influence you. A dog is not capable of making decisions in a human world. It is only learning how to get what it wants from you by controlling you, do it a favour and learn how be an owner.
I hope you aren't leaving it alone all day, dogs work on the guilt you have.
good luck.

your dog does not hate you, it just does not trust you right now. No dog likes the vet and it is just like kids and the doctor.
Try and take a plastic bag and wrap around the leg and use some tape so it will be easier to get off. This should help prevent the dog from getting it wet.

You will need to follow thee vet's advice before you can take her on those 6 hour long walks. Your dog is not mad at you. I am surprised at how much people still think that their dog or cat thinks like a human being. They do not.
They act the way they do because of drives and temperament. One of my dogs used to hate going to the vet, and the one that I have now, LOVES IT. Is he weird? No, he is just more outgoing and has better nerve then my last dog did. Please listen to your vet and follow his instructions. Your dog does not hate you and all th treats in the world will not change her mind about the way she feels about you.

Just use plastic and toughen up - dogs don't respect it when you act that way so quit it and be really firm and off hand with her. You are acting like a subordinate dog!
Ignore her as much as you can. Insist she sits for you before you feed her etc. Groom her every day and stop taking her nonsence.
You can only be mates with your dog AFTER you have sorted out whos boss. Its the most important thing you will ever do with your dog.

Call your ver and ask if they have any empty fluid bags that you could have. Cut the top open and put a string through it and tie it snug. It is very sturdy and will wear well outside. I give them to all my patients that have bandages or casts so they can go out without getting wet.

Put a couple of small trash bags, or plastic grocery bags over her leg and tie them securely. That is the same thing people do when taking a shower with a cast.

What if you wrap some plastic around her leg, something like what you use for sandwiches and just walk her along the road. Stick it with some cellotape or something. Shame feel sorry for you and your dog. Mine has got hip displacia [ dont know if i spelt that right ] so he is not allowed to run and he hates walking. Take care:))

I agree with everyone...plastic bags are the trick. I broke my wrist a few years back and was not allowed to get it wet. So in the baths and if it was raining, i had to cover my arm with a plastic bag....problem solved.
