Of course it shouldn't and the people selling the weapons know it, and the politicians that write new laws with loopholes to allow it after defence contracting company wants to male more e money, donate huge$$$$ to campaign.
So instead of having an economy that invests on domestic growth in schools. hospitals, research centres unmatched in the world, the most literate country instead of 27th we could have now been running most of the country on solar power, cars running 250 mile to gallon 0n salt water.
Sadly while nobody was paying attention the Cheney's and Bushies, Woolsies with the old ones Rockefeller's and J.p. Morgan hid science breakthroughs. Had people murdered. would not allow cars to be made that would get 100 miles per hour. (yes they have the technology) But small pathetic men and the women that support them are more greedy then survival of the planet. They care not for anyone but the God the serve $$$$$.

Because those countries deserve the right to protect themselves.
And by being the supplier of the weapons we have some control over how they are used (we control the supply of parts). If they do not buy from us they will turn around and buy them from a country that does not care how they are used.
Look at the two weapons that kill the most civilians in the world - land mines and the AK series rifle. Neither of these are sold by the US - thus we have no control over how they are used.

There is nothing wrong with selling weapons, so I don't see your point. Countries around the world have stock piles of weapons and sell them to other countries, and it isn't a problem.
Oh and what is it exactly that Ireland even does!? When was the last time you heard about Ireland doing anything for anyone or being involved in anything whatsoever? It's pretty easy to sit on your high horse and claim perfection when you do absolutely nothing you could potentially screw up. Useless.

"If you want peace, Prepare for war." or something like that.
Remember the nuclear arms buildup? Probably not, but what happened was both sides (Us and the no-longer-in-existence USSR) built up enormous stockpiles as a deterrent for nuclear war, since, if either side started such a war, there would be mutually assured destruction. If you're reading this, then that means it worked.
Dictators, terrorists, and other criminals only understand force and WILL NOT ATTACK A STRONGER ENEMY. You practice this every day by traveling in groups or with someone bigger and more imposing than you so you don't get mugged, etc. 'But if we're only nice to them, they'll be nice to us' only works with a rational enemy. Try 'negotiating' with the guy who wants your wallet and car keys when he has a gun to your head if you don't believe me.
Geez, don't they teach history anymore?

Finally, a rational and logical question.
Everyone has a right to defend themselves against an agressive enemy. And since everyone has this basic right, it makes sense that the US should supply arms to our friends in the world. It does a couple things, solidifes our friendship, and helps our countries bank account, if you know what I mean. Why let China or Russia sell arms to countries when we can make money doing it.

Everybody needs weapons for their military. Just because you have weapons does not mean you have to use them. Look at Canada.

The bottom line is, the US really doesnt want peace. A war economy means money. The typical party line is we all want peace, but the gov't sure doesnt.
