would like to hear from someone who actually bought a dog from one of these sites or who knows of someone close to the st louis area who breeds them, we have wanted another one for so long but you have to be very careful where you buy from.

Go to a dog show or a field trial to meet breeders. Don't go to some website and buy one from someone you don't know.

asfa.org for a trial schedule, although I don't think the 2007 schedule is up

Look for shows at
infodog.com
onofrio.com
akc.com
royjonesdogshows.com

If you cannot find a show to go to, email me and I can put you in touch with some breeders.

Definitely contact the (I assume you're in america) american canine council and get a list of breeders for afghan hounds. then go through the list look for breeders in your area and call them and make appointments to see them. Ask if they have any pups available at the moment or when they are expecting to have pups. Make sure you are comfortable withthe breeder and theyseem responsible. Ask to see papers, both parents, do a premises inspection. Inspect the puppies. Also read up on the breed standard. You'll find most breeders affiliated with the kennel club will be responsible and breed for the betterment of the breed. I would never buy a puppy from a website. Make sure you see the premises and the parents. Look at the papers - if there are champions in the pups background you're looking good. Ppl look after champion bloodlined dogs better. You could also look at a rescue group.

You will probably have the best luck finding a reputable breeder by locating the nearest Afghan Hound club in your area. It could be based a couple of hours away, but they will hopefully be able to refer you to a couple of breeders in your area or somewhat near by.

Good Luck!

Check out the Afghan Hound Club of America

http://clubs.akc.org/ahca/

They have breeder referral.

Check out your local Afghan Hound club too.

I used to have an Afghan, they are neat dogs.

There are literally millions of puppies and dogs in shelters, pounds, rescues, and homes that don't want them. Look in your newspaper ads, petfinder.com, and craigslist.org. You will be shocked just how many animals need good homes. Adopt, don't buy from a breeder.
