I have two finals today, and I'm pretty nervous. Inside my right hand it feels all weird and like it's shaking inside... is that normal? I'm trying to calm down, but nothing is working.....

This has happened to me as well. It only makes you more nervous doesn't it? I try to take a few minutes, close my eyes, take a few deep breaths and just relax. Think positive thoughts, or try not thinking about the finals until you are there and ready to take the tests. So - close your eyes, picture yourself basking in the sun on a tropical beach, take a deep breath - do you smell the salty air? Good Luck

I think that most people call them "butterflies".

I once had a job where I was ALWAYS in front of large crowds, on TV and radio, etc. I gotta tell you that the fear never goes away.

What I learned is to "make the butterflies fly in formation." You use that fear to help you do a good job. It's kinda like an athlete uses their fear to hit harder, or run faster, etc. The fear can be a huge source of energy, especially when the adrenaline hits your system!!

Don't be afraid of the fear (sounds funny, doesn't it?). All the fear is doing is to let you know that what you are doing is important, and you could possible get hurt (or embarrassed). That's all that fear is -- it's energy, sending you a message.

Once you have the message then can use that energy. In ancient times, the fear would help you fight off an attacking bear. Now, you can use that fear (which should've been w/ you since the beginning of the term) to help you do a good job on your final.

Yes it is normal. Sometimes when you are nervous, you tend to breathe in deeper breaths, which reduces the carbon dioxide you breathe in. This causes diziness, light headedness, and shakiness.

The best thing to do is take slow, deep breaths and maybe drink a cup of hot chocolate or tea to help your body relax.
