I might be getting a Min Pin and I wanted too know if there is anything special I need to know about them. The one I am supposed to get is living in a crate and ignored. It needs a new home where it can roam free and get the love and attention it needs. I love dogs, have a lab mix that has been with me the past 14 yrs and is a member of my family. I want to make this new dog a member also but don't know a whole lot about them. Any info would be appreciated.

I had a min pin for 7 years. He was loving, sweet, and a great family member. If startled out of his sleep, he would bite, but it was a reflex action and he didn't mean it. So we learned not to do that. Min pins are difficult to housebreak but it can be done. They are a loyal one-person dog and one of the best watchdogs. I would like another one someday.
Thanks for rescuing this one a good luck with him!

Beyond the breed specific things, this little guy is likely going to have some behavioral issues you may need to work on as a result of being ignored/neglected. You are probably going to want to initiate basic training as soon as he's comfortable in your home as it's likely these other owners haven't bothered.

Good Luck with your new 4 legged friend!

They are stubborn and nippy. This dog will need lots of love and attention along with obedience training. Poor thing - glad you are willing to give this dog a loving home outside of a crate!! good luck!

They are very intelligent, and individual temperament matters much more than breed stereotypes. Of course, some dogs just don't give you much to work with, and do not feel obligated to keep the dog if it does turn out to bite or something because of its abusive history.
My grandmother has a bumper sticker that says "My MinPin is smarter than your honor student."
However, the thing is 8 years old and still not reliably housebroken............................
Kudos for wanting to help this dog!

They are a great dog but very very hyper. If you don't give this dog enough to do to keep him entertained he could become destructive. They are very intelligent. Very loving and cuddly.

they are very hyper and sometimes aggressive. when i think of a min pin, i think of a pitt bull out of control. same goes for chihuahuas. but theyre always exceptions to the rules...this dog sounds like it needs help. i would try it out for a while to see how the dog is. it may be perfect. but dont be suprised if this dog drives you nuts.
