Okay..I have a 5 year old son...so this is what I like for this age...I don't approve of violent toys...but at this age he is in kindergarten and is in the process of learning new things and trying to understand this great big world. Boys are great with things that are hands on and that are interesting. Bailey has sooo many remote control cars...but he never plays with them..so this year I went with educational and fun...one thing that is sooo cool...i want one...it is made by national geographic and cost only 19.99 (at target)...it's a 360' planetarium for his room..and it has a cd for him to listen to at night. his whole room turns into outer space!! children love this because it is fun and technology. this or anything made by national geographic are great products. good luck!!

if you can sew you could make him a cloth teaching book, each page has an activity to help him learn, eg a picture of a shoe with a lace to tie up, a clown with a buckle on his belt, etc. the things to incorporate are a zipper, velcro, buttons, hooks and eyes and press studs. there are many things you could do and they don't have to be complicated. I did a search and found some books that u can buy to give you an idea of what i mean. They're not that hard to make. good luck and have a merry christmas

I have a 5 yr old grandson and he just loves making different designs with playdough..so playdough has a gift box that makes all sorts of designs that a child could make and use their imagination. The gift box is less than 20.00 and is hrs of fun. Also have you thought of Lincoln logs or a construction builder set like Bob the Builder? These are great for little kids. Also if he has a playstation..SpongeBob has a cute game for kids and also Finding Nemo. My grand kids just love them. Have a Merry Christmas!

Money works for me. You can start a bank account in his name (parents shouldn't be able to touch it) and put some money in it every time you want to give him a present. That way when he gets old enough to touch it himself, he should have nice little nest egg, to buy a car or go to college with. Or you can just buy him some clothes or educational toys, there is a lot you can get a child that don't deal with violence.

Hot wheels or matchbox cars. These are great, little boys that age usually love cars. You can get the tracks that go with them. Legos are also good. These are both things that they can't have too many of, so you don't really have to worry that he'll already have it.
