I don't know about you but... I do NOT want to be free in Iraq, I want to be free in America. If our troops were really fighting for my freedom, they would be occupying the Whitehouse, and deposing that dictator instead of one half a world away.
Saddam was not a threat to us Bush is a threat to our Civil Liberties and his goon squads destroy lives and careers without being held accountable.
Clinton lied about an inscretion with an intern and nobody died except the squigglers and a little blue dress.
Bush lied about WMD and almost 3 thousand have died, yet noboby is even trying to impeach him for his lies.
Support out Troops 110% but do not support the idiot that sent them there for no reason.

love you,
Explain to me exactly how one of our courageous soldiers being killed IN IRAQ is for my freedom?
I did serve in the Navy aboard the USS Nimitz working on planes that bombed countries in conficts but not a war.

Good arguments and well thought out, I may not agree with some of what you said but that is why I posted it, you gave me some things to think on and I aprreciate that.

On further thought I still cannot buy the idea that having our soldiers over in harms way protects me better that having them here.
Giving the terrorists easy access to kill our troops seems to be counter productive, they hate us being on middle eastern soil which makes them want to kill up more.
Then we give them easy access to the troops and they are killing us pretty easily.
Wouldn’t those troops be safer securing our borders and rounding up illegals and deporting suspicious foreigners than in harms way in the middle of a civil war?
You know Homeland Security not Iraqi Security...
Just something to think about.

The way I see the issue is American servicemen are protecting freedom on a global level rather than just on our home soil. By helping to establish democracy and basic human rights standards in foreign countries there will be a lesser chance of future conflicts with totalitarian states. Of course its hard to imagine a peaceful and stable democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan right now because of the growing pains they are going through, but that is not to say it is impossible for Iraq to adopt and utilize a peaceful democratic form of government.
I believe the soldiers are doing the job they were trained and intended to do and are doing it very well.
However, victory in Iraq needs to come from political compromise among the sectarian groups rather than solely military tactics. I think it would be in everyone's interest to offer the insurgent groups amnesty in exchange for coming forward and contributing to the formation of a government that represents the diverse ethnic and social groups of the country.
If a compromise cannot be achieved with the desired results then Iraq needs to draw up new political boundaries. The current borders we see on a world map were drawn up by British Imperialists more than a hundred years ago with little consideration to the ethnic makeup of the country but rather natural resources. This conflict could potentially be resolved if an independent Kurdistan, Shi'a, and Sunni Iraq are established.
I do not believe President Bush is out to dissolve the civil liberties of the American people. The United States has been in an extensive war with terrorism for five years now and I cannot point to any one specific example where my personal civil liberties were violated.
I believe a lot of these criticisms are exaggerations and in some cases flat out lies which have been exploited for political gains at home. I did not vote for George Bush in either Presidential election but that does not mean I think the slander and political campaigns against him are the least bit fair.
Political dissent is important in a free and democratic society but it should be done in a responsible and ethical manner.

Thanks for supporting the troops, but I disagree with you. I served two tours as an infantryman on the ground in Iraq (2003 and 2005-2006) and I'd go back in a heartbeat. The reasons given for invading Iraq may have fell through and proved to be false, but the fact remains that if I had to choose to fight terrorists in America or on someone else turf, I'll fight somewhere else. That place just happens to be Iraq. It could have been Kosovo, but it ended up being Iraq. By creating a foreign battlefield in which to engage the enemy, we have secured physical freedom for Americans at home. Would our civilians rather witness the war on the news or on their front lawn? I think THAT is the freedom we are fighting for in Iraq.

First - Soldiers do not get brainwashed into going to war. They signed up for exactly this kind of thing. When you join the army, you know that if and when Uncle Sam asks, you have to go to war. So you're okay there. You're on the ball. Second - it's Iraqi. Third - Iraqis never bombed us. Terrorists did. God bless every American soldier who ever fought for this country.... before, now, and in the future.

It started awhile ago, more than 10 years. Anytime our military is sent anywhere in the world, it is to protect us. 911 changed the way we wage any offensive. As far as the lies, most of the world agreed that Saddam had weapons, not just our president. It is an all volunteer military the last I checked. Going into the military puts you at risk as soon as you sign up.

At this point, the war in Iraq is more to stablize that country then protecting our country from invading Al Queda.
As a combat vet, its hard for me to honestly say, yes, we are fighting for our freedom, when then whole time I was in country, the only freedom I was trying to protect was my own. The local Hajji's we had working for us, had aboslutely no means or wants to go to america and bomb and destroy it. They wanted to live in peace with their goats and sheep and raise a family like everyone else in the world.

No. I was already free before the first soldier was sent over to Iraq. I was more free prior to the implementation of the Patriot Act by the way. Bush is part of a large war profiteering scheme and not only is he killing innocent American military personnel but also killing innocent Iraqi's.

I do agree, I mean I think that the military is doing its job by protecting us from people who want to threaten our freedoms, BUT, Iraq didn't threaten our freedoms. I feel that Bush is trying to finish what daddy couldn't do and I don't think it is right that our men and women are over there. THese are husbands, fathers, mothers wives, sons and daughters. That have had to leave their families to fight some god forsaken war that NO ONE understands.

It really saddens me to think an honorable brave soldier with a family that loves him/her will die this week to keep someone like you free. Sometimes I think there should be laws against people like you! I'll never believe you ever fought in an American war in your life only in your dreams. I suggest you go visit your pretend commrades on the front lines and let them know how you feel. No, why don't you just go live over there and see what true freedom is!

Since we have taken the war to their turf i.e the middle east, we have not had one single terrorst attack on our U.S. soil, and this is where my children rest their heads at night, so..fighting for our freedom? not 100% except they our fighting for the ideals of freedom and free democracy. They are fighting for our safety and way of free life. You are absolutly right, you have all the right to question our government, but you do need to get a few facts straight. President Bush did not lie about WMD's. As a Veteran you should know the President is ADVISED, he is not the sole researcher nor the sole decision maker, remember congress backed him based on faulty intelligence. Please stop making the rest of us Veterans look bad by spouting uneducated rants. YOU ARE entitled to your opinion, but at least try to make them educated opinions.
