Its pretty rainy outside and I have been waiting to get a crate. My dog is a shorthair aussie shepherd and he seems to have a cough. Does he have a cold? Should I give him doggy cough syrup? He's perfectly fine besides this cough and our 3 other dogs are fine (sleeping inside)

Nah I don't think shorthair aussies are designer like. I just think they were more bred to do work without all of the fur work (like smooth collies) but not bred for AKC (because if I were a busy shepherd I wouldn't wanna spend most of my time grooming my dog either)

Please enlighten me. What is a shorthair aussie shepherd? It is a designer dog? .. just curious.
When he cough? Is it just a dry cough? Does it sound wet? Or is it just a repeatetive hacking or gasping?
If he's coughing/hacking/gasping and sneezing a lot he's likely just dealing with some sinus issues...weather is changing a lot lately and it plays hell on the dogs just like it does us, you can get some antibis from the vet.
If it persists for more than a week, or if he develops a fever or other symptoms, then get him to the vet for a check up.
If your dog has a dry, hacking cough, sometimes accompanied by a white, foam-like saliva, it could have kennel cough.
Pollution, dust and grains in the environment can also lead to Chronic cough.
Heart disease Congestive heart failure can cause dogs to accumulate fluid in the lungs, which could lead to coughing, especially at night.
Parasites, such as heartworm and roundworms, may also cause your dog to cough.
Don't rely on guesswork. If your dog's bark sounds more 7 days, cough seek an expert's opinion your Vet!!

Coughs in dogs aren't a real good thing. Has he been checked lately for heartworms? Does he have allergies? Never heard of "doggy cough syrup" -- wouldn't ;use people cough syrup on him.

I might preserve an eye fixed on him for the next day to come or 2, if he does not give up sneezing, or his eye will get worse, take him to the vet. You might additionally name the vet at present and provide an explanation for the indications and notice what he thinks. Animals ordinarily recover from colds by means of themselves.
