The First Pope called himself a Catholic.
Muhammed called himself a Muslim.
L. Ron Hubbard called himself a Scientologist
Joseph Smith called himself a Mormon.
Jesus called himself...well, the Son of God
Do you see any difference?
...I hate being called religious :-)

Also, I don't believe that Jesus of Nazareth believed himself to be God or the Son of God. I believe his followers perverted his teachings into idolatry, which would have appalled Jesus.

Well.... yeah. I see a pretty big difference.
Which title carries more authourity?
1. a Catholic.
2. a Muslim
3. a Scientologist
4. a Mormon
5. The creator of the universe
Would you rather follow and trust in the leader of a human institution, or would you rather follow and trust in the One who created you and everything else in the world - INCLUDING all the leaders of these human institutions....?
It seems pretty much like a no-brainer to me.
And as to Jesus not being the Son of God.... What???
He DIRECTLY claimed to be the Son of God.
So.... we have 3 options here.
1. He was lying
2. He was insane
3. He was telling the truth.
John 8:51: "before abraham was, I AM"
"I AM" is the name that God gives to Moses on Mount Sinai
If that's not claiming to be God, I don't know what is.
Also:
Matthew 16:15-17 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
This is pretty clear. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God.

Religion has served society with many positive and negatives. I practice, but keep a very a open mind. I'm told that some writings of Jesus, decribe him in unfavorable light with regard to drinking and celebrating with otherwise undesirables. But remember God loves everyone. Even the priest that admitted he doubted God's existance. Point is, two things are relevant, love god, love everyone else. All that other stuff is political. If ANY church in the world were to say this to you would they be able to gain membership?. That is what religions are to me, membership wars.

I evolved beyond a belief in the supernatural and in the rituals of religion, and I am living a much more moral and satisfying life for that decision.

No our Father in heaven called Jesus his son. He did not call himself that by his own ordination. None of the others died ona cross came back to life and rose back into heaven. None of the others has said they go before us to prepare aplace in His Fathers mansion for us. Thee are alot of differences but I kniow that all kinds of people believe and think differently. They have that right given by God himself. I do not consider myself religious. I consider myself a child of God and try to live as good a life as I can for Him, Knowing that I am not perfect but that He forgives me. Amen

All people put some kind of label on themselves, not just those you mentioned.
And there is a HUGE difference between Jesus and Muhammad, L.Ron, Joe Smith and even the Pope.
Peace!
