review your decision. do you really wanna go? why not watch it on tv, okay fine be part of the action:
wear layers so you are comfortable.
good standing shoes
a foldly chair to sit in
a friend or magazine to keep you occupied
an interior pocket so you arent pickpocketed.
maybe a camera....
prepare your self mentally for being surrounded by others, possibly loud ones.
dont drink liquids. Replenish later that night. If you are about to die of thrist, go ahead and drink. Im just saying: dont buy the collectable 32oz coke bottle. They have port-a-potties there (you wouldnt really want to use them anyway) and once you leave your spot (which you have to get there at least 10 hours ahead of time for: theres no getting back to it, maybe if a friend saves your spot)
But it will be fun when you and over a thousand others count down from ten and yell Happy New Year to each other.
Im sure you'll have fun and lots of stories to tell all your friends.
Happy New Year!

Get there early and wear a raincoat. Not for any inclement weather but for the idiots who are going to drink too much and puke on you. It is funny. I lived in NYC and I am 10 minutes from Manhattan now and like most who live in the area we will not go to Times Square on New Years. I guess it is an out of towner thing.

You have to get there around 7pm the day before and when they start closing off the street you must get out your tent and/or chair.
I've seen people with tents, etc. By the way, you should probably take a few friends (both MALE and FEMALE) so that you can get protection -MALE firends- and someone to stay at your campsite if one of u leave

Dress in warm layers and comfortable shoes, arrive early for the best spots, don't bring in anything that is agains the rules, don't drink too much because going to the bathroom is difficult - there are no public port-a-potties!
Have fun

Dress warmly and don't drink anything, they have port o potties but you can't go back to your original spot if you leave. It is not worth it, you have to get there before noon to get a decent view

Don't go.
All the people I have talk to that went did not have a pleasant experience. Most New Yorkers are in Boston for New Years (First Night). A lot of first night events around the city.

Have your skull checked first.
NYC during New Year's Eve is crowded, crowded, crowded. Pickpockets abound. Police are locking up drunks everywhere and most importantly, its a ripe target for a simple terrorist attack that could kill hundreds with little or no effort.
If all that seems like where you want to be for a few hours, bless you!
