"It is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel [unbeliever] to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn … If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves know well, and hear him maintaining his foolish opinions about our books [Scriptures], how are they going to believe those books in matters concerning the resurrection of the dead, the hope of eternal life and the kingdom of heaven, when they think their pages are full of falsehoods on facts which they themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason?"

(Quoted by Francis Collin, Evangelical Christian who headed the Human Genome Project, but who accepts evolution because the "evidence is overwhelming.")

I agree with St. Augustine wholeheartedly. That's why we have leaders in the Church to help us understand what the Bible is really about. It is true that the Holy Spirit guides us in reading the Bible if we ask, but no one knows the Bible better than Satan. He can put ideas in people's heads that will shake the foundations of Christianity.

Also, I find it funny that an Evangelical is quoting Augustine, considering that Augustine was Catholic, you'd think Collin would be appalled by Catholic teachings.

Then he must not be much of a christian if he believes evolution. That's straddling the fence. He either should believe the entire word of God or rebuke it.He cannot be both.

If by some chance in the future I run into him,I will call him out as should every true bible believing christian should.

Great point. It is a very good reason not to listen to people like mainworry. He makes a fool of himself in so many areas when using the Bible. Why would any one listen to him on other matters?

Nonsense. God's Word, all of it should be taught.

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

It means - "Don't pontificate, don't interpret, button it if you don't know what you're talking about, and - keep an open mind!"
