I have personally dealt with friends that were self harming, depending upon the condition whether it is an eating disorder ,cuttings, or extremities as attempted suicide there are different ways to approach the situation. You should be there for the person and try to develop a closer relation than what you have, then if they would like to tell you in their time they will. You can pose questions by first stating how much they mean to you because normally it is a lack of self-worth issue.

well i can be honest and tell you that no matter what you say once they are at that point they won't listen but i can give you some tips i've found helpful with a few friends i have helped . .you have to stick by them, they feel really lonely even tho they won't say it, and even tho they maybe telling you to leave u have to let them know that no matter what you say or do your not because you love them and you couldn't live if anything happened to them, also you need to get some adult help at the time it might not sound that great but they are usually the ones in charge and will determain counseling or even the hospital . .if you feel your friend might be really trying to hurt his or her self then the emergency mental health ward will take care of the rest and get them the help that they need. its not just a problem its a sickness that i delt with my whole teenage years its not something that should just be brushed off like oh she looks fine now she knows thats whats going to make everyone go away! and i beg of you not to leave them alone! in the end they will thank you!

Share with this person you care enough about him/her to offer in getting help. If you are in school and this person is willing, offer to accompany her to the counselor to talk. If you are in a youth group at church, do the same. Christian groups are forming all around the nation and are helping youth with issues such as these. It my personal opinion, but this is a cry for help. Answer this person's cry by stepping out and being there!!!!!!

There are numbers to call for this. You, as a friend, should be there for them and let them know you're their friend regardless. If you have an open friendship they will come to you with their issues.
