Go to your local book store and flip through as many diet books as you like. Pick the ones that appeal to you, and pick a few that you think you might NOT normally read. Build a little base of knowledge.
In the end, you still just need to eat cleaner, and probably less, than before. Often, meal timing is a big issue, too, so just aim for the ever-popular (these days) "5-6 small meals" plan, high in nutrients, fruit and veggies, lean protein, etc., and just bring down your total intake.
That's free, and it works.
But you do have to actually eat less. That's the one thing you can't escape. Whether it's Weight Watchers, the Zone, whatever - they all stand on the basis that they will somehow get you to eat less that before. A million different methods to do the same thing.

Bake don't fry, leave ALL soda alone including Diet, if you must drink a soda make it clear,(Sprite, Sierra Mist, Ginger Ale) add garlic to all meat products. leave all JUNK food alone, stay away from starch foods when you first start a diet, eat a high alkaline diet, celery is good. Exercise, walk the dog, go to the park etc., do not have to go to a gym to get exercise!! Change your habits, but before you would begin a diet it would be good to be checked out for a thyroid problem, because even if you diet and would have a thyroid problem you may get discouraged because your eating habits may not be the cause of your weight problem. the reason I said to add garlic, either fresh, jarred or garlic salt to your food is that it is good for your blood, will help unclog arteries and keep them that way. The key to loosing weight is by boosting your metabolism, go to the website below

Calories IN must be less than Calories OUT. Check the food pyramid on the back of a bread label to see what portions you should be eating and do exercise in moderation 4-5 days a week. Once you start gaining muscle and endurance and dropping fat, you can increase your exercise to more strenuous workouts, but do not do anything extreme without speaking to your doctor first!
